wordpress.com import does not apply categories to posts
-
I am trying to migrate my personal blog from http://www.iamnotmyself.com to wordpress.com. I successfully backed up my current blog by exporting the content as RSS. I then imported that content to a local instance of wordpress. The import was successful and my posts and categories were saved correctly. I then exported form the local wordpress instance and verified that my categories were intact. When I import my backup to wordpress.com the posts and categories are brought in, but the posts are all assigned to the unassigned category. I am not sure what to do from here and the googles are telling me nothing… 8(

I’m pretty sure something odd happened when I imported my blog too. If I remember correctly, all the tags became categories, but it is 5 months ago now, so I can’t remember exactly. I just recall I had to clean up all the categories and tags manually at the time.

I a perfect, or near perfect world, tags and categories should come in and the cats and tags assigned to posts should still be assigned to posts. A recent import of a self-hosted blog back to wordpress.COM ended up with a lot of work to be done. This should not be the case, but apparently there are some issues with import and export with WP 3.0 and 3.1.
