WordPress.com ip addresses for 3rd party DNS A records pointing
-
We would like to map the http://www.stepsahead.fi domain to wordpress.com and replace my existing wordpress address hannumattinen.wordpress.com. Our service provider in Finland, Nebula Oy suggests us to keep the website’s DNS hosting on their name servers since also the stepsahed.fi email addresses (Outlook) are hosted there. Nebula needs to have your IPs to be able to create A records pointing accordingly. Would you kindly send me the IP addresses needed. I would like to publish the new website soonest possible at the http://www.stepsahead.fi domain and would therefore very much appreciate your quick reply. With kind regards, hannu

Hi there.
The best way to map a domain to a WordPress.com blog is to set your domain’s name servers to the following values:
NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
NS3.WORDPRESS.COM
However, if your registrar requires that you create A records, please note that our IPs change over time. Because of this, your domain might stop working at some point in the future. If that happens, please get in touch with us to find out the most current IPs and then update your A records, accordingly.
If you still want to map your domain using A records, please be sure to create two records using these IP addresses:
192.0.78.25
192.0.78.24
Thanks!

Thanks! Pls, give me an idea about how often the IP addresses will be changed? Monthly, yearly? Do you have process to inform your clients about that?
If we would decide to use WordPress name servers, how do we do the MX-pointing to the e-mails hosted by a third party service provider? -

They change arbitrarily – there is no set time table for when they change. So, if your client has any issues with their domain, have them contact us – and we will look into seeing if it has anything to do with an IP address change.
If we would decide to use WordPress name servers, how do we do the MX-pointing to the e-mails hosted by a third party service provider?
Yes, you would need to update the name servers from the registrar from which the domain is hosted. For more information on domain mapping, please check out our support page:
Let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks!

Our domain was mapped using A records by our registrar by using the IP addresses:
192.0.78.25
192.0.78.24
This was done over two hours ago. Still, WordPress is informing us “Sorry but stepsahead.fi has not been registered yet therefore cannot be mapped”.
When using http://www.stepsahead.fi in a browser, the information is: “Domain mapping upgrade for this domain not found. Please log in and go the the Domains upgrades page of your blog to use this domain”.
What is your advice about the next steps. Thank you in advance, Hannu -
Hi there,
I was able to map stepsahead.fi for you. You’ll still need to do a few things:
1) Purchase the subscription here by renewing:
https://wordpress.com/my-upgrades2) After giving that a few hours to take effect, set the domain as primary under https://wordpress.com/my-domains
Let us know if you need more help!

Hi again …
After having followed the proposed process, the site indicates that the purchase is ok, as well as having set the domain as primary. However, I am confused of still getting the emails from you, indicating the following:Custom Domain for hannumattinen.wordpress.com
Howdy, you recently asked us to activate the domain mapping upgrade to use your domain name stepsahead.fi as the address of your site hannumattinen.wordpress.com
As explained during the purchase process, the last step requires you to change your domain name DNS settings to use:
NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
NS3.WORDPRESS.COMInstead of:
ns.nebula.fi
ns2.nebula.fiQUESTION: DOES THIS COME FROM AN AUTOMATED PROCESS + DO I NEED TO PROCESS ANYTHING?
THANKS IN ADVANCE, BR; HANNU -
QUESTION: DOES THIS COME FROM AN AUTOMATED PROCESS + DO I NEED TO PROCESS ANYTHING?
THANKS IN ADVANCE, BR; HANNUHi there,
Since you are using A Records to point your domain over to us, you can disregard the nameserver e-mail.
However, as I mentioned earlier, using nameservers is the more reliable method of pointing your domain over to WordPress.com. If you used nameservers, you would not have to worry about our IP address changing. If your host in Finland allows it, I would do that – but that does not seem to be the case.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks!

If it helps – http://stepsahead.fi/ – loads fine for me to a WordPress.COM site
I am on the west coast of the U.S.
-
Yep, it is working fine for me too. So your site is good to go, @hannumattinen – again, you can totally disregard the e-mail if nameservers aren’t something you want to change.

StepsAhead case ok now, thanks.
We have another business site (ninahyyppablog.wordpress.com), in need of the same process. Do the same IP addresses apply in this case as well, as we move the domain under the address newborncommunications.fi? Thanks again … -
Hi, I have one question related to the menu widgets on side and bottom bars. Is it somehow possible to modify the length of the word to fit on one line? In Finnish language there are long words like lanseerausmarkkinointi, which is divided onto two lines (only the last letter i goes to the second line). This problem shows up only on wide screen sizes. My site is ninahyyppablog.wordpress.com. Thanks in advance for your advice. BR, Nina

Yes, the same exact process applies for that site as well. Just have the owner of that account post here and we’ll get that domain mapped for them as well. Thanks!
