wordpress.com limitations problem
-
Hi! I am currently running a blog at http://www.notmanyexperts.blogspot.com , however, it’s so tacky that I thought it was necessary to move to wordpress. I created my account, and you can see what I have done so far at http://www.notmanyexperts.com (I bought the domain at dreamhost, but they are not hosting it) However… I need to be able to post a headline ad and a java ad in the border. I am aware that you cannot do this with wordpress.com, but what should I do? I can’t download wordpress from wordpress.org because I do not have a web server to run it all on.
Many thanks for any help,
Phil

Even if you’ve mapped your WordPress.COM blog to your own domain, you are still bound by the ToS for all WordPress.COM blogs, which means you cannot run advertising.
If you want to run your own advertising on your blog, you will have to find a hosting service, install the WordPress.ORG software (many places including dreamhost have autoinstallers) and then you can do whatever you wish.
So it goes.

Many thanks! So I suppose that’s sort of the only option then…
So if I do buy a hosting package on dreamhost & install wordpress.org, can I import my wordpress.com site that I have made so far so that I don’t lose everything that I’ve done so far?

Haven’t tried it myself, yet.
