wordpress.com navigator is not looking right.
-
Hi.
I am using firefox 5.
When I look at a blog post with normal or greater than normal zoom, part of the navigator bar drops down into the scrollable area.it looks like they added something new to the navigator bar?
I cleared cache and cookies and am still having the problem:The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The same thing’s been happening to me since they changed the bar — when they changed over to the “add new” and so forth. It doesn’t happen when I’m on the larger monitor unless I zoom the fonts up a couple time, but on the laptop, the “Search WordPress” section drops down. It’s annoying, but unless I make the fonts unreadably small, I can’t get rid of it — the search box & the “this site” “all sites” buttons are just too big to fit and they don’t scale. It only happens when I’m actually viewing my own blog, though — because there are more options available then — so I tolerate it.

When the “shortlink” link is there & not under the “blog info,” it just is one item too many for my monitor to manage.

I just checked with Opera, and it doesn’t drop down like it does in Firefox — when I zoom the text more than 100%, the admin bar just begins to shove the right-hand side items (the search) over rather than dropping down into the blog. (I prefer Opera’s way of handling it — I rarely use that particular search box, and if I needed it, I could “zoom down.”) In addition, on Firefox on my teeny laptop, at 100%, the search boxes already don’t fit & drop down onto the page; at least w/ Opera, at 100%, everything fits in the bar nicely. :-)

Safari doesn’t drop down either, so it is related to Firefox apparently. Can someone check in Internet Exploder?
-
Not before bed — I might have nightmares! ;P Besides, I’m on an XP machine at the moment, so only have IE8, and that’s considered out-dated. (However, I can tell you that in IE8, my blog looks very odd — in a post that’s very short, when only looking at a single post, the sidebars run into and over the footer widgets. I’ve not checked it on any other computer, so it may just be this machine — although I did temporarily change the resolution & it didn’t help.) Maybe someone w/ IE9 could test?
-
The same error shows up on my computer on Firefox 5, Palemoon 4, Maxthon 3.3 (uses IE’s engine and BHOs) and Internet explorer 8.
I am not going to upgrade Internet 8 and that should not be an issue here.
When you are viewing a post on your own blog all the buttons including “like” and the “shortlinlink” appear… its look like there is too many buttons on the navbar.
IS anyone NOT having this problem viewing with Firefox 5, viewing one of there own posts?

It is all in how they handle the overflow when the browser window is narrower. They just need to make an adjustment to the CSS so that it doesn’t drop down and the stuff on the end just gracefully disappears behind the right end of the browser frame.
-
Agreed, tsp — and I like your description of it “gracefully disappearing.” It’s nice to see it do that on Opera.
-
Ok!
Its better but still a little buggy on some arbitrary points. The administrator / navigator bar on my own blog now working correctly… until:
1) Zoom in above normal resolution…
2) “Follow” my own blog and click on a post on my blog. (oddly, pages work fine unless of course you zoom in).
These are not big problems, as they only appear when I look at my own blog, but I point out that they are there if anyone does need to work on the bug.

I have resigned myself to not being able to zoom above 100% in firefox on my blog without having that search stuff drop down into the page. Given my eyesight, it’s annoying. But, like you say, it’s only on our own blog pages.
I like Opera, but I don’t like that when zoomed, images are zoomed as well as text. In firefox, I always have it selected to zoom text only. Opera does have a neat little zooming bar at the bottom of the page, though, and it keeps the search box nicely at the top of the page, just nudged over a bit.
-
@ mmadfan I recently tried Opera again, and it is a nice browser. I’m happy with the browser I use, for now.
_____looks they have fixed the bug again.
the nav bar works fine, I can zoom way in, and “subscribe” to my own blog without the bug.
They changed “my profile” to “me” and “subscribe” to “Follow” which has allowed more space on the navigator bar.
-
Yes! After seeing your comment, I went back and looked. They also changed “Stop Following” to “Unfollow,” which while questionable as an English word, takes up much less space — I like to get the email so I know what it looks like & that there are no glitches. And the change to “Me” and to “Info” rather than whatever it was before (“This Blog”?) is great.
Nice changes! Thanks to whomever is doing the tweaks! :-)
