WordPress.com not importing images from self hosted WordPress blog

  I have a self-hosted wordpress 3.6 site at http://www.katielane.com which I am moving to wordpress.com. Importing blog posts is flawless except the images are referenced back to the katielane.com website.

  There are no options for exporting or importing images (no checkbox to do this on either end). I want to eventually kill the self-hosted site and point the domain name to wordpress.com so I do need to bring these images in. The blog posts being imported are all in this category http://quiltzillas.wordpress.com/category/maries-blog/

  Others have had the same issue on the forum here. Any help with this?

  There should be an option to click which will automatically move the images if they were stored and linked properly.

  I teach WordPress in two colleges and have dozens of students export and import their sites to and from WordPress.com and they often forget to check the link that instructs the importer to import images.

  See this support doc on importing for the specific steps.

  Thanks for replying lorelle. I have seen your reference on importing before but I’m still not seeing a checkbox option anywhere. Actually the opposite. The last step in the import process says:

  Import WordPress
  If you exported you site’s media files, we’ll import those for you automatically.

  This is followed by the Assigning Authors stuff and then the Submit button.

  On the export end, there are no options either (wordpress 3.6). I’ve had another person look over my shoulder at a complete Export/Import process just to have another set of eyes and we still don’t see any media options.

  If you can point me to something obvious, it would be greatly appreciated.

  Is the self-hosted site up and running? The import reads the article content from the import file but contains references to the images on your existing site. This means that the site must be up at the time you do the import – and potentially for several hours afterwards as image updates is a queued operation.

  Yes the self-hosted site is up and running. http://www.katielane.com/maries-blog/

  It is just the blog posts at the link above which I am trying to import.
