WordPress,com notifications.

I am trying to figure out what parameters (for follower count) are in place on WordPress.com free plans for receive a notification in my notification popup.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

All support docs are at https://en.support.wordpress.com/ The fact you have a free blog being free hosted on the free plan no impact at all on subscription options.
If you wish to display the number of followers in the follow blog widget you can do so.
Show total number of followers – If you choose, the widget will display the total number of followers, which is the sum of:
WordPress.com users following your blog
Any followers from connected Publicize services (Facebook and Twitter)Note: This doesn’t include blog post (comment) followers. https://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/follow-blog-widget/
I never do that as I find it off-putting when people appear to be bragging (I have over 6,000 followers) or appear to be beffing to have more followers.
Your wordpress.com subscribers are found here
http://NAME_OF_BLOG.wordpress.com/my-stats/?blog_subscribers
* Replace NAME_OF_BLOG with the actual name of the blog.
Note that the title there includes Publicize followers from social networks. https://en.support.wordpress.com/publicize/
Your email only subscribers are here https://wordpress.com/my-stats/?blog_subscribers&type=email

re: wordpress.com blog subscriptions
All that’s required to follow any blog hosted by wordpress.COM is exactly what you were required to provide to register here, and that is a valid email address that the published posts can be sent to.
Here subscribers control their own subscriptions and frequency of receipt of posts from sites they subscribe to. We cannot act on their behalf.
You can set up email subscriptions here > Appearance > Widgets > Follow Blog Widget by using this guide > http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/follow-blog-widget/
Widgets can be configured to appear only on certain pages (or be hidden on certain pages) by clicking on the Visibility button.
https://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/#widget-visibilityWe have a subscription shortcode which you can make use of. The help page on it is right here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/blog-subscription-shortcode/ You can also include the subscription shortcode at the end of every post you publish.
Staff have recently added the mailchimp widget for subscriptions and here is the link to the guide you must use https://en.support.wordpress.com/mailchimp
Additional information:
You can create a Subscribe page http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/ add and customize a contact form with multiple fields, change the email address where you’ll be notified, and mark feedbacks as spam from your dashboard on that page. http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact-form/Read more at https://en.support.wordpress.com/?s=following

timethief – Thank you for all the above information: I will work through all you have provided, but I am actually refering to the following type of ‘notification” I received from wordpress. I received a ‘picture’ with +200 in a double colored circle with the following message below it:
Congratulations on getting 200 total follows on The Recipe Hunter!
Your current tally is 201Not sure if I am explaining myself well enough.
-
Aha! I think you are referring to https://wordpress.com/me/notifications
Is that right? If so, then what you describer is just an automatically generated notification meant to congratulate and encourage you.
-
Yes that’s 100% correct.
What’s the parameters (count) used by WordPress for generating these automatic notifications. As mentioned I received one as above on a 200+ count and never since and I am already over the 400+ mark. -
timethief, sorry, not sure if you received my last note yesterday. Can you perhaps let me know which parameters (follower number count) are being used to decide when WordPress will be generating these automatic notifications? I am a curious cat, and wish to know. Thanks for your help and time.
-
Hi there,
We don’t have it documented anywhere when those notifications take place, so I’m not able to tell you this. I suggest you let it be a pleasant surprise if and when it happens. I know it always is for me (recently got one for 500 followers).
Also, don’t put too much store in follower counts. A much more meaningful number is engaged readers, so how many people comment on and share your posts. Those are the people who actually read your site, and that’s the number you should be aiming to improve to have a truly successful site.
-
kokkieh – Thank you so much for your response. Yes I totally agree with you, and am not in the least concerned about that follower count, as mentioned before it’s mere curiosity that kills the cat…..
Anyway, I have a very good and steady count of enaged readers, and am very happy with that.
Thanks again for all your input, time and support. -

If I check my likes and especially the comments made on a daily basis by my followers, then I am very happy with how things turned out. Some days better than others, but all in all I am happy as I have a food blog and only started the blog in Oct 2015, but really active and promoting it only for say 6 months or so. So still young in the game.
