WordPress.com or WordPress.org?
-
Hi there all, I’m a bit torn right now between a decision to stay on WordPress.com or make the jump to WordPress.org. A short backstory:
I’m trying to start my own Photography business but I’ve only just started–yesterday. Should I hold off until I’m able to pickup more steam or should I make the jump now so that I can import a more custom theme?
I’ve always been told it’s important to establish your branding early (theme) and I don’t want to use a theme that someone else might be using for a similar purpose but I’m not sure if it’s that important (yet).
See my issue?
Thoughts would be helpful for those who have experienced this in the past. I surely hope that I posted this question in the right location. This was the only one that fit the guidelines of my post closest.
Thanks in advance.

From my experience in freelancing and being in the digital marketing space, I’d say …
- Develop a brand using a logo, colours, photos, and customer service.
- Focus on winning clients, winning back clients, and getting referrals.
- Spend a limited time on the website, just make sure it’s presentable.
For now you may want to focus on validating your business idea and growing it. When you’ve establish a good clientele then you’ll also have more work you can use to further develop your brand and your new site.
Another consideration is your level of using WordPress. You can get a premiere account via WordPress.com and have support included with your monthly pricing. The WordPress.org route you’re on your own unless you hire a developer, which may be more costly and take more of your time.

Repost because the formatting got screwed on my previous reply.
