wordpress.com personal plan versus wordpress.org basic plan

    Hi,

    I’m new to blogging and want to have one blog and share recipes with photos and maybe some other topics i might one to share under the one blog. I’m really confused if I should start with the wordpress.com personal annual subscription which I believe this gets me a domain name without the .wordpress in the title name

    or

    Do I go with the 3 year term wordpress.org?

    Please help me make this decision. I appreciate it so much.

    Very good question! I’d be happy to help. The main difference between the two platforms, “.com” and “.org” is that the former is all hosted on the web by WordPress and is easy to use for a first-time user like yourself whereas the “.org” platform is for those users that want to self-host their sites and requires software downloaded on your computer.

    Now of course, the choice is yours but it seems you would be better off starting with the Personal plan on the WordPress.com and then if you want, you can migrate to the “.org” platform later.

    hello @myhealthyrecipesweb and congrats on your new blog!

    I agree with @gregariousbadger that the Personal plan is a great choice for getting started (Here’s a comparison of the different pricing options). Not only do you get to pick a great domain name, but you get access to live chat support and keep your site free of ads.

    However, I do want to clarify something he said — you don’t need to have software downloaded on your computer necessarily to have a WordPress.org site — yes, you can do it that way, but more simply, it means that you are paying a different company other than WordPress.COM to host and manage your site. The document he linked to does have a good summary.
