    Hi,

I have been considering getting the WP.com upgrade to premium but I needed to know if i could also host a podcast in order to create an RSS feed for itunes and stitcher. The podcast will be part of the webpage that I will be also building with the premium upgrade.

    Thanks in adnvance!

    Thanks!!!

  • Hi there. You can in fact do this with a free blog.

Each category on your blog has its own RSS feed, so simply add all posts containing your podcasts to the same category, and then use that category’s feed. See here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/audio/podcasting/

The support doc specifically mentions Feedburner, but it should work with other services that can import your RSS feed (though that’s just a guess – best to test it yourself, as I can’t find any earlier mentions of using Stitcher in the forum, which either means no one else has tried this, or they didn’t have any problems with it).

In this case, the only difference Premium will make is that you can then upload your podcasts directly to your media library. With a free blog you’ll need to host the files themselves somewhere else, and then embed them in your posts. See here for all the options to embed audio files into posts: https://en.support.wordpress.com/audio/

    Thank you!!

The thing is that I am considering premium to create a more official web page from the one on http://www.metaverus.wordpress.com and since it offers some storage space, I was planning on using it. But that free alternative seems interesting.

So, if upload all of them to my google drive and embed them on wordpress as a blog post, i could create an rss feed for itunes?

    Thats cool!!

  • Yes, as long as the file is in a format that can be embedded into WordPress.com you should be able to do it. Just remember that if you ever deleted that file form Google Drive it will disappear from your blog as well.

The important part is to assign all posts to the same category so you can use the category feed.

If you need more help, please let us know. I have no direct experience with audio files and podcasts, but I can always tag the thread for staff if I can’t help :)
