WordPress.com Premium upgrade renewal

    I built this blog and transferred it to my friend who now is the site administrator. Our premium upgrade is due for renewal but my friend (co administrator and transferee) does not have the payment options to renew. I think I have not transferred ownership of the site correctly but not sure what to do. I’m a little concerned to transfer to another site as I don’t want to mess it up.

    Hi Wendy!

    Is your co-admin able to go to the Store link in your site’s Dashboard, and add the Premium upgrade from scratch? This will allow him/her to take over the financial business on the site.

    Also, when you transferred the site, were you hoping to remove yourself entirely? Let me know and I can help with that, if you wish.

    Hi and thanks thatrobyn!

    I have purchased the upgrade as he was unable to see the purchase options (and I left it too late to resolve).

    Ideally, I would like to be removed entirely and transfer the upgrade to the owners of Tallulah.net.au. I would love some assistance as I am worried I am going to bring the site down.

    I also want to build another site from my nuwms.wordpress.com user account which is completely separate to tallulah.net.au.

    So grateful for your speedy response.

    Hi Wendy!

    I’m happy to help you out with this. Just so we’re on the same page, you would like the following:

    1. The Premium bundle and domain upgrade (tallulah.net.au) currently active on nuwms.wordpress.com to be transferred to another user.
    2. You would like to be removed as a user from nuwms.wordpress.com (tallulah.net.au).
    3. You could then like to create a completely different blog under your current account (wennewman)

    Is that all correct? If so, just let me know the username of the user you would like the upgrades transferred to, and I will make it happen.

    Just to clear up some possible confusion, it will be a bit more difficult if you’re looking to keep the address nuwms.wordpress.com for your new blog. If you would like to do that, we’ll need the new owners of tallulah.net.au to create a new blog. Then, we’ll have to export/import all of the content. Finally, we’ll be able to move the upgrades over. Not impossible – just a bit more work.

    Let me know how you would like to proceed!

    Thanks again for your help. Your 3 points are correct. I would like to keep nuwms but if its too much I’ll not worry.

    If you could advise the best way to create a new one so that I can transfer it over once built I would be grateful too. I seem to have trouble understanding the correct way to transfer so that the user account email can be changed to the transferee (contact us form email address won’t let me remove me on another old site I built).

    Hey Wendy!

    If I’m understanding correctly, the individuals taking over tallulah.net.au do not have a current WordPress.com account. Is that correct?

    If so, we’ll need to follow these steps (this will make sure you keep nuwms.wordpress.com as well):

    1. Have the new users create a WordPress.com account with their own email address here:

      https://signup.wordpress.com/signup/

      They will need to create their own username and blog. The address of the blog doesn’t matter so much since we’re going to transfer the domain tallulah.net.au to that blog. They are effectively creating their own nuwms.wordpress.com.

    2. Once the new username and blog have been created under the new user’s email address, please let me know either their email address or their username and the blog address they setup. I will transfer the domain mapping upgrade for tallulah.net.au and the Premium bundle off of nuwms.wordpress.com and onto their blog.

    At this point, all of the content (all page content) will still be at nuwms.wordpress.com, not their new site. To move the content over and free up nuwms.wordpress.com, follow these steps:

    1. Export nuwms.wordpress.com following the instructions here:

      http://en.support.wordpress.com/export

    2. Pass the export along to the new owners and ask them to import it into their new blog

      http://en.support.wordpress.com/import

    At this point, they should be all set. They will need to configure their widgets a bit to have the site exactly as it is now, but I can help them with that if necessary.

    Read through all of the above. Please feel free to ask any questions or ask for clarification! That should get us the majority of the way to our goal.
