WordPress.com Reader not displaying posts from sites I subscribe to
-
The Reader section of WordPress.com where I ordinarily see content from the ebsites I subscribe to is empty: I see empty boxes where posts should be (see below, if the image works). This has been getting worse for a while now. Until recently when this happened I could click on refresh and I would get a few posts (but never more than about five or six, after which I would just see empty boxes). Today, no amount of refreshing appears to be solving the problem. I am using Chrome on a Windows 10 PC and I also use a Chromebook – I have the same problem on both machines.

Hi there,
What version of Chrome are you using? You can use this page to check:
Have you tried clearing your browser cache and cookies, and have you checked if resetting your connection, using a different connection, or using a different browser besides Chrome make any difference? How about using incognito mode in Chrome?
Lastly, also please make sure that you have JavaScript enabled, and if it works in incognito mode, try disabling any ad-blocker or antivirus extensions you might have installed in Chrome.

Many thanks for your reply, kokkieh.
My understanding was that Chrome automatically updates itself. In any case my browser reports its version to be 55.0.2883.87 m (that’s the version running on my Windows PC).
As I explained in my original post, the error also manifests on my Chromebook when I am out and about; I don’t believe it to be a connection issue, therefore, since the connection I am using varies. I had wondered if this is a common problem, but your reply seems to suggest not. Hmm.
I do have Javascript enabled. I do not run any adblocker software. I do not use any antivirus extensions. I have cleared my browser cache and cookies, and it has not made a difference.
Actually, I should add that today the Reader has gone back to displaying a finite number of posts (at the moment, ten). After ten posts I again see the blank posts as per the image I posted.
I have tried out Microsoft Edge as an alternate browser and Chrome in incognito mode and I get the same result.
Thanks again for your attention. Sorry to not be reporting success.

This is not a common issue, no :)
The Reader works fine for me in Chrome, so the problem is not on our end, but it’s highly unlikely that it won’t work for you on different devices, browsers and connections at the same time.
Can you please follow the instructions linked below and check for me if you see any errors in the browser console? If you can take screen shots for me, please upload those to your site’s media library where I’ll be able to see them.

Thanks so much for your continued attention, Kokkieh.
I’m ashamed to say I’ve fallen at the first hurdle here. The link you provided instructed me: “In Google Chrome, go to View → Developer → JavaScript Console.”
I don’t seem to be able to find a ‘View’ menu.

Hi there,
Sorry for taking so long to reply. It appears that Chrome in Windows no longer shows you a menu like all Windows apps are supposed to. You can also open the console by pressing Ctrl-Shift-I in Windows.
