WordPress.com to .com any way back?
-
Okay so I was registered with wordpress.com and had the site miltonline.wordpress.com I then saw that miltonline.com was available and bought the site (through fast hosts), installed wordpress on it and have since built a nice wp site there. However I’ve since realised that wordpress offer .com names and I could have been miltonline.com (for less) all along. What is my pathway back (if any)? Should I erase content from miltonline.wordpress.com? Export the content from miltonline.com, upload to wordpress then stop hosting with fast hosts and get wp to register the name. It makes me tired just to type it. Any help appreciated!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

While migrating can be done, have a look at the difference between .org and .com first: http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
One thing is that the current theme on miltonline.com is not available on WordPress.com, so if you do migrate here you will have to change to another theme, which might not be desirable.
There can be other considerations too depending on your use cases.

If you do decide to move to .com (with a different theme) then the basic path is:
- Create a wordpress.com blog
- Export from your .com blog.
- Import into your WordPress.com blog
- map your existing domain to the WordPress.com blog

Thanks for the quick and helpful replies! So appreciated. I may as a path of least resistance annihilate my miltonline.wordpress.com site and commit to miltonline.com – I understand that there are other flexibilities (beyond themes) which I may need. Thanks again.

If unsure make your wordpress.com blog private rather than deleting it. That way if you change yor mind you can get it back!

In order to have a site here with a custom domain name, it has to have an underlying WordPress.com address. So no need to annihilate the existing WordPress.com site, just empty it of its existing content before importing your org content.

You guys are wonderful. Thanks. I’ve made the wp.com site private to defer the decision of the ultimate annihilation. And I may make my way back home in the future, thanks so much.
