WordPress.com URLs not properly linking to corresponding URLs on mapped domain
-
I’m trying to map my blog to another domain, and the corresponding URLs for posts aren’t matching up. So on my wordpress.com site, the URL would be example.wordpress.com/2007/09/blog-post. My new site just has example.com/blog-post, so instead of mapping to the new locations, the URLs are just 404’ing and landing on the home page of my new blog.
In each individual blog post, I can see where I can alter the naming conventions of the blog posts, however, I’m unable to delete the /2007/09 from each URL.
Also, when I tried to click “map a domain you already own,” I hoped I could manually link the corresponding URLs, but I got an error message saying that the domain is already mapped to an existing wordpress.com blog.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there! I see that you have the Site Redirect upgrade, which doesn’t map your domain in the same way Domain Mapping does. Site Redirect syphons all your WordPress.com posts and pages to a single outside URL.
If you have an outside domain name, hosted elsewhere, and you want it “pointing” to your WordPress.com site, you want Domain Mapping. If you do this, a post on your WordPress.com site (example.wordpress.com/2007/09/blog-post) would actually look like example.com/2007/09/blog-post/.
If this sounds like your goal, let me know. I can cancel your Site Redirect and credit your account $13. You can then add Domain Mapping.
However, if you’re hoping your domain and WordPress.com site work in a different manner, please describe in detail how you want everything to behave and I can help further.
Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks very much.

I’ll elaborate using a specific example.
I used to use http://anythinglime.wordpress.com, but then I purchased and built http://anythinglime.com. I bought the site redirect upgrade so that when users land on anythinglime.wordpress.com, they’ll be redirected to anythinglime.com. The problem I’m finding is that they’re landing on specific pages based on search keywords, and then are being redirected not to a corresponding page with that post on my new site, but to my homepage with a 404 message that the page can’t be found.
This is because the URL structures for my old and new sites are different. For instance,
http://www.anythinglime.wordpress.com/2008/04/22/im-bringing-hickeys-back/vs.
http://www.anythinglime.com/im-bringing-hickeys-back/
This is an issue because 1) readers aren’t able to find my website content that is being generated with Google searches and 2) they’re bouncing as soon as they land on my site and get a 404 error.
I’m unable to change, within WordPress, the naming conventions of the old URLs so that they correlate to the new URLs. Please advise.

Hello there,
There isn’t a way to adjust the permalink structure of your posts in your WordPress.com site. The only way to make this redirection work is to make changes to your WordPress.org/self-hosted site’s posts.
Take a look at this plugin, which can help with the process:
https://wordpress.org/plugins/redirection/As the changes must be made on the server of your self-hosted site, I’m afraid I can’t be too helpful. Because your site is self-hosted with a different provider, support staff at WordPress.com do not have access to your site’s files or the ability to provide support for your current issue.
You can find support for your self-hosted WordPress site here:

Let me know if you have any other questions. If there’s anything WordPress.com-related I can help with at all, I’m happy to be of assistance. Thanks much.
