WordPress.com vs .org
-
I apologise in advance if this has been covered, I’ve not really found the answer I am looking for :)
I am currently on WP.com but having looked at .org it seems much more user friendly for those that want to use their own domain names (which I do).
Can I switch my current blogs without losing the content from .com to .org?
If so how do I go about it? I want to host my domain name on the host I’m currently with.
Thanks in advance

dashboard -> manage -> export
download the xml file, then upload it to your self-hosted blog. no important content lost. to be on the safe side, keep your wp.com blog private (so nobody can view it, instead of deleting it) in case you need the content there or may want to use the blog again in future.

if you have a wordpress blog with paid hosting, that’s a .org blog. all .com blogs have free hosting, though you have to pay for domain mapping (the customised url without the default username.wordpress.com url) if you want it.
