WordPress.com vs WordPress software at remote host.
-
I have my wordpress.com site and it seems to work fairly well. I am considering setting up my own site at a remote host, like Hostgator or GoDaddy, etc and using the WordPress software they provide. That way I can have my own domain instead of having mydomain.wordpress.com, plus I will have more options. My question is if the WordPress software that I would upload to a paid host essential the same as the WordPress software I am now using on my WordPress.com site? Would I have to learn coding or does it have a visual editor like the one I am now using?

Did you know with the Domain Upgrade you can get your own domain and stay here?
If you still want to move, the software from a user perspective is almost identical to what we have here, including a visual editor.

Can the new domain upgrade give me a http://www.myname.com address or would it still be http://www.myname.wordpress.com?

I looked at the FAQ and am confused. I have mydomain at GoDaddy and it is already directed to my WordPress blog and now reads as http://www.mydomain.wordpress.com. How can I make it read http://www.mydomain.com? Do I need to change the redirecting commands at GoDaddy or just make the change in my domain settings?

As I explained in another one of your threads, you need to do both. Check your other threads for the answer:
