WordPress.com vs WordPress.org

I am thinking of moving my WordPress.com blog to WordPress.org but I have people following my blog on WordPress.com who I am not sure would be notified via email if I posted on WordPress.org. Also I get quite a lot of traffic from people simply trawling around on WordPress.com I do not know if people trawl WordPress.org in the same way. Also my blog somehow gets onto the WordPress US site as I get referrals from there I do not know if it would still be featured on the WordPress US site if I was self-hosting on WordPress.org. The main reason for thinking about the change is to get plugins for social sharing, sign up pop ups and SEO optimization but I do not know if this is worth it.
