Hello – I recently set up my website at wordpress.com and I want it to be wordpress.org. My site is hosted with Go Daddy. I cancelled the domain mapping and custom design. How do I set up my website with .org and remove the .com?

Are you clear on the fact that WordPress.ORG and WordPress.COM are completely separate sites? To export your blog content out of your WordPress.COM blog so you can import it into your WordPress.ORG install see here. http://en.support.wordpress.com/export/

As I said above WordPress.com and WordPress.org are completely separate and have separate logins. If you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG click this link http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, so you can post to the support forums there and receive advice from WordPress.ORG bloggers.

Yes, I am. I set my site up first with wordpress.com – my mistake. Now I am trying to use that same domain name with wordpress.org. I set it up with Go Daddy with a new login, how do I make that the site now?

Install the WordPress.org software on your hosted site. GoDaddy should have instructions for doing that.

I did that – the link to sign with .org in is the same link I used with .com, will that affect anything? When I click on the wp link to login I get this error message:
Warning! Domain mapping upgrade for this domain not found. Please log in and go to the Domains Upgrades page of your blog to use this domain.

Is GoDaddy hosting your site? Do you pay them to host, or have you only purchased the domain name with them?

Then sign in to your GoDaddy account. That is where you will be installing the wp.org software.

It sounds like the custom domain is still pointing to the WordPress.com URL. Otherwise the sign in link would have to be DIFFERENT.

If you’ve registered your domain through WordPress.com and now want it to point to a blog or website hosted elsewhere then you can do this by updating the nameservers.

I already installed the WP app. How do I change the custom domain and what do I change it to? Sometimes I am able to successfully login, but when I start navigating around I get this error message again:

Do I need to delete my wordpress.com site? Do I need to change nameservers?

I want to completely remove the .com site and start over with .org. I removed the domain mapping from the .com so I don’t think I will be able to transfer.
Is the wordpress.com site hindering my ability to login in with the new wordpress.org site (that has already been set up with Go Daddy)? Should I delete the .com site?
