wordpress.org blogs show up on tag surfer?
-
I had a wordpress.com blog for about a month and was getting a few hits every day from people finding my posts through the tag surfer. I’ve since moved to my own domain name and am using wordpress.org. Will the posts I make on wordpress.org still show up in the wordpress.com tag surfer pages? Meaning, will people still see my tag categorized posts and (hopefully) visit like they did when the blog was on wordpress.com?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

No, your self-hosted blog is in no way connected to wordpress.COM. The tags pages are for .COM blogs only. The tags pages are one of the benefits of blogging here.

i didn’t realize this. thanks for filling me in. it seems like a large benefit to lose. is there a way to combine the two (.com & .org)?
i wanted to do a self-hosted .org in order to customize and be able to have amazon affiliates and some small advertising; on the other hand, being a new blog, it seems like losing out on the tag surfer pages are a big traffic loss.
any advice?
thank you

Yes, it is a large benefit to lose and no, there’s no way around it; it is deliberately set up that way by WordPress staff.
You have to make your own decisions about what’s most important to you and decide on the platform for you.

is there any rule against running the same blog on both platforms? seems like the best of both worlds, possibly…
thanks again for the help.

It’s a terrible idea. For one thing, staff have requested that if your blog here is just a duplicate of something somewhere else, that it be set to Private, which takes you off the tags anyway. If you don’t comply, they have been known to suspend it.
For another, any search engine that finds content that’s duplicated is going to throw BOTH sites down a well as far as search engine visibility is concerned.
You really DO have to make a choice between the platforms.

Raincoaster is right on. We have both been through this. I think you may gain a clear understanding of the problem you would create if you read these Google entries on duplicate content.
