WordPress.org Nameservers

  • Unknown's avatar

I’ve decided to move my already registered WordPress.com domain (which I bought directly from WordPress.com) and now I want to make a move to WordPess.org. I log onto my Domain Manager and followed the instructions given here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/domain-management/ but I am still having trouble. I am to step 4 and I have no idea what a nameserver is and what I should replace it with for a WordPress.org blog.

The nameserver information you need to add there is the nameservers of the new web host you have signed up with (godaddy, bluehost, dreamhost, etc.).

Alright. Then what’s the host that WordPress gives you? Sorry, I’m a real newbie.

WordPress doesn’t give you a “host.” WordPress.ORG distributes the software you use with self-hosted blogs.

You need to hire a web host, change the nameservers here to the new host (after they set up your account), download, install and configure the software from wordpress.ORG. If you haven’t yet hired a web host figure a cost of around $10 to $25 per month depending on your storage and bandwidth requirements.
