wordpress.org vs premium wordpress.com
-
I’m wondering if someone can clear up some confusion for me. I am just starting out, and would like to proceed with the potential to monetize once I’m well established. I’ve done a ton of research on wordpress.com and wordpress.org and understand the basic difference between self-hosting, etc. My understanding was wordpress.com blogs cannot be monetized except through Wordads (or whatever it was called). But is that different if you purchase the premium plan? I can’t find any info on monetization and the premium plans. I checked out a blog using the premium plan and it had several ads – would those just be through Wordads or are those paying for premium able to monetize at will, so to speak?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi Lisa,
WordPress.com blogs can be monetized, provided the content and purpose of the blog is to generate original content and not to be an ad farm only.
The type of advertising that’s allowed includes sponsored posts (if written by you) and affiliate links. Using an ad network like AdSense, however, isn’t allowed and you can only use WordAds for that.
These type of ads can be used on both the Premium as well as free blogs, but as I mentioned earlier, the blog has to be focused on generating content and not on spreading ad links only.
