WordPress.org vs. WordPress.com

    Hello,
My name is Cecily. I have recently took over the marketing/social media for Bogey’s Club and Cafe. The restaurant’s website was previously operated by WordPress.org. However, I was curious what the difference between this site and the .org site was and how I can link the domain if possible to use your site. I have designed websites through your site before and appreciate the great customer service & help you provide. If you can provide any further details I would appreciate it.

    Hi @bogeysclubandcafe

    WordPress.com and WordPress.org are a bit different.

    A major difference being “Hosting”
With WordPress.org you have to host the WordPress files yourself through a hosting company, while with WordPress.com the hosting is taken care of.

Hosting your own WordPress site can be fun and rewarding, but it also requires some technical knowledge and places more responsibility on you, the publisher.

WordPress.com is a great choice for bloggers, photographers, artists, plumbers, doctors, restaurateurs — almost anyone. However, techies that prefer to maintain full control over their code, should consider hosting their own WordPress installation.

Have you taken a look at this support page?
