wordpress.org>wordpress.com import problems
-
I’m attempting to import the content from an existing wordpress.org blog to mbgross.wordpress.com, but it’s telling me to “Please upload a valid WXR (WordPress eXtended RSS) export file.”
What could be causing this problem? The original site is at http://defenderofkeys.com. I upgraded to WP 2.9.1 before attempting to export.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Ok, I figured this out. I guess some plugin was adding something to my export, because once I deactivated them all, the import worked fine.

I’m not surprised to hear deactivating the plugins did the trick as doing that would free up space. I am happy to hear you worked this out.
Happy blogging! :) -
Sometimes I feel so clueless. I’ve found many people reporting the same problem that I’m experiencing, BUT I NEVER see a solution posted. I followed the WP instructions and exported an .XML file. I followed the WP instructions and tried to import the same, seeing as WP insists that the WXR they want is actually an .XML. But then, I receive this message: Invalid file
Please upload a valid WXR (WordPress eXtended RSS) export file.I’m confident that my .XML is good, I’ve opened it and everything appears to be there.
Please HELP! THANKS.
And yes, I tried the deactivation trick….no dice.

@nashlaoshi
Was the content you referred to in the XML file exported out of a wordpress.com blog? If so then you will need to contact wordpress.com Staff.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/However, if the xml file was exported out of a wordpress.org blog then I believe the correct forum to post to for help with it is http://wordpress.org /support/
