Words beginning with the letter f
-
Recently on my blogs, many of the words that begin with the letter ‘f’ are not appearing. For example, ‘irst child’ should be ‘first child’ in the second sentence of this blog: https://passionschmitz.wordpress.com/2015/08/03/a-look-at-suffering-for-beauty/

I posted a similar problem this morning (https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/characters-displaying-in-wrong-order?replies=2#post-2545527)
In my case ‘if’ becomes ‘fi’ and ‘lf’ becomes ‘fl’ – it looks like a spelling mistake, but it’s correct in the editor view. The problem only appears on my mac/ipad/iphone/safari not on a PC/chrome – what are you running?
It seems to affect the merriweather sans font. I have found that if I change the font in customizer to the default for my blog that the problem disappears.

Thank you, Afifah!
I changed my font from the default font in the Ecto theme to Source Sans Pro font, and now my f’s are better.

I’m glad it worked for you, but it isn’t really a proper fix, as you should be able to use the font that went wrong.
I need to use Merriweather sans (its a business site) so switching out isn’t an option for me :(

I’m having the same problem. I will try changing the font, but would like a proper fix as well.

A glitch with liguatures (like fl and fi) was introduced in the Merriweather font a few days ago. According to the font’s developer, a fix will be pushed through to Google Fonts today (Jan. 25) in the morning, Pacific time:
https://github.com/EbenSorkin/Merriweather/issues/16
Temporary workarounds include:
1. Add the following custom CSS, if you have access to the upgrade:
html { -webkit-font-variant-ligatures: none; -moz-font-variant-ligatures: none; font-variant-ligatures: none; }OR,
2. In your Customizer’s Fonts panel, choose another font.
