Words breaking into letters at each line break in comments
-
Just noticed this so maybe it’s a temporary glitch, but how can I make sure that the words don’t break up into letters at each line break in the comments section? It’s not happening in every comment, but it’s happening in a lot of them – especially in the replies to comments. (Things like It’s turning into I
t’s).Thank you,

Sheila, I use the theme Twenty Eleven as well, and my comments section is doing the same thing. I first noticed it yesterday, but see that comments from past blog posts are affected as well. Hopefully, we’ll get an answer soon.

@sheilahurst
I’m using Firefox 17 and I don’t see what you describe on the comments on your latest post at all. Please post a link to an example. -

If you are not running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/ please try upgrading or switching first. If you are, please do these:
1. Try clearing your browser’s cache http://www.google.com/support/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=32050Note: If you are using an IE9 browser in compatibility mode that makes it render as IE7 and IE7 is not supported. To disable see > http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1196-internet-explorer-compatibility-view-turn-off.html
2. Make sure that you have third-party cookies enabled: http://en.support.wordpress.com/third-party-cookies/
3. Try with all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily disabled.
4. Try enabling HTTPS: http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/
If it’s still happening, let us know which browser (and version of it) you’re using and post any error reports you get.

It can be seen in several of my responses, but if you look at my response to Paula Acton, it happens on most lines. The “r” drops off, “wrote” is broken, “to” is broken.

It seemed to start yesterday, and I see older comments are affected where the weren’t before. I’m using Firefox 17.

Staff have been upgrading the software here and issues are cropping up. This may be related to that upgrading or not. Either way this thread has been tagged for their attention.

For a little additional information … I just left a comment on another Twenty Eleven themed blog. The blogger responded to me. When I clicked to reply to her response, the box expanded and all of the letters were in their proper place. When the comment posted, and the box retracted, some of the letters fell off onto the next line(s).

Thank you – that’s good to know it’s not happening in all browsers. I’m using Explorer. I first noticed it on this post:
http://sheilahurst.wordpress.com/2012/11/28/have-we-progressed-and-is-progress-worth-it/but it’s happening on all of them.

Hey, support guys, I’ve had my theme from the beginning and don’t want to change. ;-) Would like to see the problem fixed.
Here’s another Twenty Eleven themed blog where it’s happening:
http://clownonfire.wordpress.com/2012/11/30/michelle-weber/It might be specific to the theme, and it happens in the replies to the comments.

I’m not seeing the issue myself. Is it still happening for you?
If so, first make sure that your browser is up to date by visiting http://www.whatbrowser.org/
If it is not, please try updating your browser or switching to a different browser.
If it is, please do these three things:
1. Try clearing your browser’s cache and cookies: http://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/
2. Make sure that you have third-party cookies enabled: http://en.support.wordpress.com/third-party-cookies/
3. Try with all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily disabled.
Please let us know how each step goes for you, and which browser (and version of) you’re using if you’re still having trouble.

My browser is updated. The problem is easy to see.
http://breezybooksblog.wordpress.com/2012/11/26/hes-baaack/#comments
Look at my very first comment to ThatFunnyBlogGuy. The word “have” and “same” are both broken. Here’s a post from A Clown on Fire. He also uses Twenty Eleven.
http://clownonfire.wordpress.com/2012/11/30/michelle-weber/ Look at his very first comment to kayjai. The word “black” is broken. Here’s a post from My Not So Cheeky Thoughts – also using Twenty Eleven. http://mynotsocheekythoughts.wordpress.com/2012/11/25/hello-world/ You can see the broken words in almost all of our comments to each other.
It just started happening within the last two days, it affects older posts/comments, too, and every Twenty Eleven theme I’ve seen so far seems to be affected.

I don’t see the stated problem on either post.
Now, you mentioned your browser is up-to-date, but what about the other three items listed above, and which browser (and version of) are you using?

Ok, I’ll clear cache, etc. and report back, but I did run over to have my husband check my blog on his laptop. He brought the current blog post up in Firefox and IE (both current), and the problem is showing in both for him. Timethief also said she could see it.
I’ll be back.

I’m co-administrator of the blog “The Magical World Of Wines From Grocery Outlet” http://grossoutwine.wordpress.com/2012/11/30/2007-georgetown-divide-petit-verdot/ and my compadre and I were just discussing the split word problem earlier today. Here’s one example of words being split in one of my comments in reply to a reader. The splits look terrible and make no sense and they’ve been occurring everyday since yesterday. http://grossoutwine.wordpress.com/2012/11/13/contraste-red-table-wine-mexicoca-4-99/#comment-7759
Sure would love to see this fixed, as it’s very distracting and certainly doesn’t reflect well on WordPress…or our particular blog. -
