Is my22cents.wordpress.com a private blog because it just redirects me back to the wordpress.com homepage?

and for some reason the code you gave me above for renaming the url link like “my imdb page” doesn’t work. I see the whole address. I think I’m in over my head.
-
I have another domain pointing at it. or maybe because it’s private? try http://www.randiland.com

It depends on whether you are using the ‘visual editor’ when creating a post versus the ‘code’ tab. The code I gave is for the sidebar widgets. Here is the FAQ for using the adding links in a post:

Thanks, those will lead me to answers about the names of links, etc. But I think you can visit my blog now, and hopefully direct me to directions about adding another item in “About me”. TIA.

That might be a “theme related” widget and can’t be updated. I would suggest replacing it with a text widget that has all the links and info you want myself.

I see – yes, i guess it’s a theme related widget. As for the link to “my IMDB page”… I’m having no luck at all. Might be time to give up and just have it say http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0802020/

Hello again,
To create an “About Me” text widget you follow the illustrated instructions found here http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/12/24/using-the-text-widget/ and simply type your biographical information into it and save it.
->Presentation -> Widgets
Scroll down the page to Text widgets “How many text widgets would you like?” and increase the number to create one.
It will appear in your “Available Widgets” box.
Drag it into the “Sidebar” box and click the blue and white icon to open it.
Type in your “About Me” text.
Close the text widget by clicking the X on the top right hand corner.
Click “Save Changes”.

This is the wordpress.com support forum. We provide support only to thos who have free hosted wordpres.com blogs. You have a site linked to your username that it not a wordpres.com blog. Are you sure that you have a free hosted wordpress.com blog?

i guess it’s a theme related widget
The reason I’m asking is because if you have downloaded a copy of the Fresh Bananas template from wordpress.org then know this they run on different software than we do here and the widgets are different.
-
It loads content from wordpress.com when loading….it had me fooled as well when I didn’t see the admin bar, but it is a wordpress.com blog as far as I can tell.

yes I do. I just wanted it not to have worldpress in it, so I followed those directions.
-
I believe I had it set to private, and I think I changed that. this is all very new and confusing to me. But I did register another domain name, so it wouldn’t have worldpress in the title. everything else I’ve done here. Oh, and I switched from the Fresh Bananas to another template. Sorry I’m confusing everyone.

What I wrote here for the About Me text widget is applicable to all wordpress.com blogs https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic.php?id=18215&page&replies=36#post-137169

I think I understand, timethief. So doing what you suggest means I would not be using the About Me widget that was “built in” to the Ocadia, theme, right? I’m making my own so I can add more items to it?
As for creating a click on link in my About Me that says “my IMDB page” and takes you there, maybe one of you can look and see what it says now and tell me exactly what I’m doing wrong. I just can’t seem to grasp it.
Whatever your answer, I think I’m going to approach this whole thing fresh tomorrow. It’s been a real Time Thief tonight, and my head is spinning. This is all the wrong side of the brain for me. Frankly, how I got the domain name working here is… a miracle.

Take it slow and easy step by step and everything will fall into place.
About Me
(1) The “About Me” that came with the Ocadia theme and displayed in your sidebar was not a widget per say. The default setting on this theme and on some others is coded to provide a brief biographical “About Me” statement at the top of the sidebar. The information is derived from this page -> Dashboard -> Users -> Your Profile (Scroll down to the bottom of the left hand column to “About Yourself – Share a little biographical information.”)(2) As soon as you place widgets in your sidebar here -> Dashboard -> Presentation -> Widgets the default setting on this theme including the “About Me” disappears and the default widget arrangement is replaced with the choices you make.
(3) The first of two approaches to providing an “About Me” biographical statement after the default setting has been over ridden is to do so on a static page -> Write -> Page
You can simply copy and paste the information you entered on the bottom of the left hand column to “About Yourself – Share a little biographical information.” Here’s an example you can view.(4) The first of two approaches to providing an “About Me” biographical statement after the default setting has been over ridden is to do so in a text widget
