Working on an site with an existing doman

    I have a domain but stopped hosting services to make some major revisions. I saved the files. Can I map the domain over and use the files I stored to work on it until I am ready to go live?

    Hi there,

    You can map the domain to your WordPress.com site – that will require that you upgrade the site to our Personal Plan or higher:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/

    But the files from your old site cannot be uploaded to WordPress.com, as we don’t offer FTP access. Only a .xml WordPress export file can be uploaded to a WordPress.com site.

    You’d need to upload those files to a regular stand-alone WordPress installation first and get an export file from there if you want to move your site to one hosted on our servers at WordPress.com.
