Working with On Demand
-
Is there any documentation on how to use the On Demand theme? The one page on the site gives very little. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to actually manifest the categories and carousel on the home page. Posts appear listed below the category/carousel area, but that’s it. Bewildered and need help. Thanks, David
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi David – Yes, there are detailed instructions here:
http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/on-demand/support/It looks like you’ve done everything right for the carousel, but so far, you only have one post in Arts (the category you’ve set for it). I think you have to have more than one post in that category before they show up.
Let me know if that still doesn’t fix it, or if you get stuck on anything else! I’m happy to help.

Hi Eurello,
Thank you so much for your help. I did find that, but realize that I was operating from some (old) assumptions. I now have a set of preliminary posts that do appear on the page, and play beautifully when I “preview” them, but fail to load and play when I try to access them from the blog itself. Which button am I missing now? Again, thanks,

Hey David –
This is looking much better! I clicked a couple and they play for me. The thing to understand about On Demand is that the thumbnails on the front page don’t actually play right there. Rather they link the reader through to the full post where they can then play the video. You can see this in the theme demo here:
http://ondemanddemo.wordpress.com/Does that answer your question? If not, can you describe a bit more which posts aren’t working for you?

Hey Eurello,
Thank you for taking a look. Yes, I’m starting to get the content and structure together. I still have this weird problem with the videos playing, however. And it seems to only occur in Safari!? If I just go to the site and click on a post, or preview it from the dashboard, I get the full post page, but the video screen blank except for the rotating “wheel.” If, however, I make any kind of change in the post, upload it, then preview it, it works…that one time. What the heck? And, as I said, if I go to the site via Chrome or Firefox, it all works perfectly. I repeat, What the heck?! If you have an idea about this, I will be grateful (even more than I already am for your help).

Hi David – What version of Safari are you using? Can you try disabling any browser extensions or add-ons you use with it?
-
Hi Elizabeth,
The two extensions I have are “firebug Lite” and “Ixquick.” Add-ons are “Shockwave Flash,” “Reader Application Detector,” “QuickTime Plug-in 7.7.1,” and “Adobe Acrobat NPAPI Plug-in, Version 11.0.03.” I disabled all of them, but have the same problem. My version of Safari is: Version 6.1.1 (7537.73.11).

Hi David – Hmm. They play fine for me in Safari. Could you try updating to version 7 and see if that fixes it? Also, make sure you do have Flash enabled in Safari.
-
Elizabeth-
My Lion machine won’t update to 7. However, I have an older one, and the site works just fine on that – as it does on everyone else’s Macs using Safari. So, something squirrelly about this one machine. I’ll use the other and it all will be fine. Thank you for your help, and I hope not to pester you again.
