Working with Photo Gallery

  Newbie with wordpress and just started creating pages and posts. I am working on a page and would like to have a mix of inserted images throughout my text and also include, on the same page, a gallery of images. I have figured out how to insert a gallery but it is unclear how to add or delete images within a gallery. In particular, I can’t remove images from a gallery without removing them from my media library. Can anybody help me identify what I am doing wrong and how to accomplish my goal?
