Working with RTFD files

  • Unknown's avatar

I’m switching my old blog to WordPress. The old one will only export into Mac OS X Rich Text Directory Format files. Is there a list somewhere of what type of files WordPress will import? (I mean the actual file extension type, as opposed to Blogger files or TypePad files.) Maybe I can change the RTFD files into something usable by WordPress.

Otherwise, I’ll be cutting and pasting three years worth of entries! Thanks for any suggestions.

wordpress exports our blogs in xml document.

I don’t know about all the different types (file extensions), but the most common is .xml and typically imports very nicely into wordpress.

Thank you. I have good news and bad news about your advice. Good news: I found some software that automatically converts my RTFD files to XML!
Not so good: I tried to import them–and you have to choose to import Typepad, Blogger, Live Journal, or WordPad files–and none of them worked for my XML files. A couple of them gave me a message to the effect of “All done! Have fun!” but when I viewed the site, the uploaded file wasn’t there.

    Any suggestions?

I would suggest contacting staff Mon-Fri 9am-5pm Pacific time at: http://wordpress.com/contact-support/ , or using the “support” button in the upper right of your dashboard.

Thanks for your help. Those support hours coincide with when I’m least able to contact them, so I may try an e-mail.
