Working with the database

  I am trying to import a locally developed WP site, including established pages, roles, plug-ins, etc. Using the import feature did nothing and the site on WP.com looks the same. Most to all of the engine for WP is the database, so how to I import a new database? Also, how can I export the database being used?

  Hi there – I am a volunteer and perhaps I can help.

  As far as I understand things, doing an import from a WordPress.org site to a WordPress.com site should grab everything you need from the database and put it into an .xml file which you can then use to import all the data into your WordPress.com hosted site.   It is not importing everything. I already performed the actions noted in both of those links. While some content is imported, not all of the content (specifically, the theme and a Google Embedder plug-in) is imported. I expected the site to look and function exactly like it does on my local setup if it is in fact doing a FULL import.

  @markfarias – I guess it is possible that the theme did not transfer, since not all the themes available through the self-hosted version of WordPress are available with the free WordPress.com hosted version plan.

  You could try upgrading your plan to get access to the theme you want, as well as the plugin and direct email support.

  Themes are not transferable. Only content can be transferred.
