‘World’ header for WordPress.com ‘News’?

Are world news topics not of much interest on WordPress? Why no heading/subtopic for ‘World’ / ‘Global’ news? Or is what goes on beyond the confines of the States not of much interest to folks here? You know, people might want to read about things like…
200,000 people being washed away, while a million or two million people became newly homeless in the last week,
Or, a 7.8 earthquake hitting the world’s most populous country,
Or, the Middle East violence spiraling to new depressing levels,
Just wonderin…

None of the categories on the News section is geographically specific. If you post an article in the “News” category, then it’ll appear there regardless of what part of the world you are posting from or posting about. The same thing is with any other tag.

Wait, actually the categories are still too narrow. If you don’t fit into ‘Travel’ or ‘Politics’ or ‘Business’ you fit nowhere.
‘Global’ is not geographically limiting, it includes the whole world. None of the topics I mention in my first post fit neatly in any existing categories. I think a ‘Global’ category would be a better news category.
Or am I missing something else here?

A lot of categories cross over. Like entertainment encompasses those who tag it as movies, music, television, etc.

Been on here 4 days, so I’m still figuring all the navigation. I see what you’re saying about the tag navigation. But I’m mainly referring to the “News Departments”. For example, from the home page take a look at the News Departments – Politics section. Are there any posts on Japan politics, German politics, Papua New Guinea politics? Seems they could add a ‘Global’ department there, for hard news that isn’t ‘business’, ‘politics’ etc.
Just saying…
But thanks to everyone’s comments, I’ve increased my understanding of this thing 1000%.

The Americans are having an election right now, so it makes sense they’ve dominated the Politics section. There are indeed posts about other countries, but they’re outnumbered. It’s not a conspiracy.

I see, being an Americanski myself, I can’t seem to get far enough away from it all….
But I will keep my eye out for PNG political postings in there.

If you are going to post for things (such as the tragic events in Burma/Myanmar, China’s earthquakes, or tornadoes in the US), then make sure you use more than one category and tag. Don’t overdue it, but make sure your categories and topics are covered.
I’ve tried to setup my site’s categories to match most of the news stuff on the WP.com page, but I have some sub-categories and tags that are much more detailed, etc.
