Would I have these additional features with the Business anual plan?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Good morning,

I have been progressing with my project and I am thinking of upgrading it to the Business anual plan.

There are some things that I cannot do with my current (free) plan and I’d like to ensure that they would be available with the upgraded version… Such as:

    – Using my own typography (from a .ttf file).
    – Using my own color palette.
    – Adding some specific plugins to work.

Would these work with the updgraded plan?

This is a little bit urgent, please, since I have received an offer for the upgrade that expires today… And using it would make it a lot more feasible for us.

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Best regards,

    Hi @ldbmapayuda,

    thanks for the questions!

Here I have placed replies under each question:

    – Using my own typography (from a .ttf file).

That is possible, by uploading a .ttf file into fonts folder using FTP as described there:https://wordpress.com/support/ftp-access/
Please note that it is highly recommended to create and use child theme for customizing your Theme: https://wordpress.com/support/themes/uploading-setting-up-custom-themes/child-themes/

    – Using my own color palette.

Do you mean using custom CSS for changing colors of some elements? If yes, then it is possible on Business plan, more info here: https://wordpress.com/support/editing-css/

    – Adding some specific plugins to work.

Also possible, all plugins on Plugin Directory will be available, as well as custom plugins upload will be possible, more info here: https://wordpress.com/support/plugins/adding-plugins/#install-plugins-via-a-zip-file

We value your feedback, so let us know what do you think!

Sorry, just one last question: is there any way to change the title of the ‘Blog’ page to another? (ie. “Posts”). I can edit every other page’s name but not that one (the one where our entrances and posts go), and I would like to.

Thanks for everything and best regards,

  • Hi there,

It is true that page cannot be edited once it is set as your “posts page.”

However, what you can do instead is create a new page called “Posts” and set it to be the page for your blog posts instead.

You can do that here under the Homepage Settings and Menus tabs. https://wordpress.com/customize/mapayuda.wordpress.com

This is difficult to explain in words, so I recorded a quick video to show you how to do it.

Hi! Thanks again for your help!

Just quick last question: would it be posible to change the domain name from “mapayuda.wordpress.com” to something like “mapayuda.org/blog”? I need it to be a link/subdomain from another site in this case.

    Would that be possible?

    Thanks again for everything.

    Best regards,

  • mapayuda.org is your “main site” hosted elsewhere, yes?

That kind of “mapayuda.org/blog” structure is not possible since these are two separate sites. The only way to have that kind of URL is to actually build the blog into your main site.

However, it is possible to connect a subdomain like blog.mapayuda.org instead if that option works. To do that you will first need to upgrade to one of our plans listed here, as they all include the “domain mapping” option you would need.

    https://wordpress.com/pricing/

I would recommend the Personal plan in your case since it is the lowest cost, and would allow you to connect your domain. In addition the plan provides extra storage space for pictures and audio, and turns off the ads we show on free sites to help keep the lights on.

Once you have upgraded we have a guide here for creating and mapping a subdomain, but we can also help walk you through it.

    Hope this helps!

Ok, sorry to go on with this but, when I try to do the child theme (either with a plugin or manually), I get a message that the domain will be changed from mapayuda.wordpress.com to mapayuda.wpcomstaging.com.

And I don’t want this to happen… I just want to upload a Typography file to be able to customize a little bit mi site.

But, even after I have upgraded my account to Business (already paid), everything seems to be not possible.

Can you help me with this typography thing without changing the domain please?

    Thanks and best regards,

  • We totally understand your concerns there. To be able to proceed with any typography adjustments, child theme usage, or plugin installation, you would need to upgrade to the Business plan. That, too, will change your sites URL to mapayuda.wpcomstaging.com, however, if you proceed with trying to have your blog appear at “mapayuda.org/blog”, the site URL change will not matter because mapayuda.org/blog will take over as the site’s URL.
