Would like to install plugins, but cannot find area to search for and install

  • Unknown's avatar

I would like to install plugins, but can’t find a way to search and install them. I manage another wordpress website and there is a tab for plugins that I can go into and search for plugins and then install them so I don’t understand why I can’t find them here and install.

Please advise because there are plugins that I need to install to make this website navigable to the way I would like it.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Caburkey, that’s exactly the issue I’m having. I have read, though I’m looking for confirmation, tha they don’t allow plugins on wordpress.com.

I you find something out, let me know! (email visible only to moderators and staff)

There is no FTP access and no blogger installed plugin capability on any free hosted WordPress.com blogs.
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/ftp-access/
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/plugins/

See here for a full comparison WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org
    http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

There is no upgrade you can purchase here that provides FTP access and the ability to install plugins and or any third party themes. If you want FTP access and to install plugins or third party themes into a site then you will have to hire a web host http://wordpress.org/hosting/ and set up your own WordPress.org install.

WordPress.com and WordPress.org are completely separate and have different logins, features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support forums http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

    @onthemarkwriting.com
There is no domain mapping upgrade for onthemarkwriting.com here at wordpress.COM. If you would like to use this domain you will first need to set up domain mapping.

WordPress.com provides free blogs and free hosting for them. WordPress.com does not accept domain name transfers but mapping to an existing domain can be done.

Domain mapping of an existing domain URL that you already own and purchased elsewhere is not done free of charge. You will have to renew the domain name purchase where you made it and the domain mapping purchase here every year.

    Important Notes Before Upgrading http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/#important-notes-before-upgrading

Mapping an existing domain costs $13. annually. In order to map to a domain one must have an underlying .wordpress.com subdomain blog to map from. If you have registered a .wordpress.com blog you log in as Admin under the exact same username account that registered the blog and purchase a domain name by purchasing an annually renewable domain mapping upgrade for the blog.

See here for mapping an existing domain that you already own http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

Dashboard > Store > My Upgrades is where you do the primary blog set up knowing it can take between 24 – 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What’s important during that stage is to be patient.

This is not a free website and I have already paid for the domain transfer so why am I continuing to have problems?

http://clewest.com/ is hosted free of charge by WordPress.COM

WordPress.COM does no accept domain transfers. Only mapping of existing domains is possible. Whois information clewest.com is set as the primary domain for clewest.wordpress.com and will appear in the address bar when you visit the site.

Are you referring to moving your blog content and domain to a WordPress.ORG install?

Hey all, As timethief has explained, plugins are not allowed here on WordPress.com.

@caburkey49 – let me know if you’d like some help setting up your domain. Or if you’d like to move to a self hosted WordPress.org site.
