until I meet with my happiness engineer. This seems impossible! I keep being forced into making decisions I want to be sure are correct with my happiness engineer and I can’t simply pay. Can anyone help?

Hey! ! If you check out this page, you’ll be able to see all the plan options that you have available, which are shown at monthly rates, but billed annually.

Are there questions that you have about the plans those of us on the forums can help you out with?

I will add that I have a URL I want to use and it is already an active web site elsewhere. The plan is to migrate it to WordPress.

I have picked premium. I have to select what I want. I chose web site. Then I have to pick a template for that site. I picked something hoping it could be changed because that was required. I also was asked to name the site or provide the URL. I provided the URL and was told to wait while my account was created. I’m not sure that happened. I still could not simply pay for a premium account and work on it with my happiness engineer. My concern is that most times you pick names, et al, in systems they are permanent and not changeable. Perhaps there is a reason why this happens with WordPress but I simply want to pay for an empty Premium site that will be used to migrate a current site from another host and location. I can understand that I need to pay for the site first and that’s fine. I have an ready to pay for the site right now and have been. But if I am locked in with name and URL or create some kind of conflict with the site that is already running, that’s an issue for me. Can’t I simply pay for an empty premium site and go from there with my engineer?? Thanks

Ah, well to do that, you can do a process called “domain mapping”, which this article outlines. This sentence from the article sounds like it may apply to your situation:

Each paid plan comes with a free domain credit you can use to either register a new domain or map one you already own.

No worries about being locked into a URL. You can change the domain name under My Site > Domains. Here are some more detailed step-by-step instructions on doing so!
Just keep in mind that if you change it from whatever you originally choose as the URL, this will make that original URL permanently unavailable moving forward, by yourself or anybody else.

but no where does that tell you that???? Perhaps a miracle will happen and someone from WordPress will contact me to take my payment and create a premium account with nothing selected before I meet with my happiness engineer. Here’s hoping………

I have to say I am truly sorry I did not do this when I was face to face with WordPress folks. My reaction is that this is not easy……

When you are domain mapping it doesn’t matter at all what the underlying .wordpress.com sub domain URL is but it does have to be registered first.

To sign up for your first WordPress.com site, simply fill out the signup form. http://wordpress.com/start

Adding a New Site or Blog to an Existing Account

    How domain mapping works
Registering an underlying .wordpress.com URL first is required for domain mapping. That underlying URL does not have to match the domain URL when you are domain mapping. What domain mapping does is providing a seamless redirect to the very same content under the new domain URL when a person clicks the old URL .wordpress.com to the original content. It can take up to 72 hours for domain propagation to take place throughout the internet but it doesn’t usually take that long.

Thank you to everyone who is trying to help. I purchased both the URL and hosting from another major vendor so I am not trying to move from WordPress.org to WordPress.com. As for domain mapping, I am not interested in the technical. I simply want to buy an empty web site for a users so I can proceed with working with my happiness engineer this week. Can anyone explain why I can’t do this and do it easily? Most customer service groups in most companies could solve this in just a few minutes. I am standing ready to pay for at least two weeks now.

It looks like you were able to get a blank site created already and now just have the domain to work on. Will you need help with that or is that what you’re meeting with someone to work on?

  • Unknown's avatar

I have gotten help. Am awaiting the instructions to remap the domain name for this site. Thank you for replying.

I took care of one site already. I’m still waiting to hear from my Happiness Engineer about the other. He was going to let me know when it was ready to go and share some other info with me about templates for the organic goddess site. According to an email I received this morning, I have 15 days to deal with the second site. Hopefully, I will hear from the engineer soon now. Thanks again.
