would like to try WordPress

I would like to download WP to my computer without hosting until I see if I like it. Downloaded a version but it will not open with the systems I have on my machine. I don’t want to invest in any Zip software until I am sure I like the way it works. Any suggestions?

I think you are in the wrong forums. To use WordPress.com you do not have to download any software. You are talking about the WordPress.org open source software.

You can always just set up your site here at WordPress.com and not have to worry about updating anything on your computer. :)
