Wouldn’t this be a better gallery???
-
I do love WordPress’ gallery feature but my problem is that the links to the individual picture can only go to either the image file or the post url.
What I want though (and I feel some people would too) is that once you click an individual picture, a pop up would appear bearing the picture and below it would be a the caption as well as a next/previous button, allowing you to view pictures without hitting the back button and sorting through the whole gallery again.
See it in action at this website: http://jeighcee.weebly.com/photography.html
If there is a WP gallery setting that already does this, sorry but I wasn’t able to find it so please tell me how.
If not, then don’t you agree that the gallery on the website above is actually better?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

“below it […] the caption as well as a next/previous button, allowing you to view pictures without hitting the back button and sorting through the whole gallery again”.
The WP gallery does exactly that if you select to link thumbnails to “Attachment Page” instead of “Image File”.

Well yes, I did try that too but it still takes you to a different page.
I guess WP don’t have that exact same feature here where the blog entry just darkens out in the background and the picture you clicked sort of floats above it and you can browse the pics from there, like the one here: http://jeighcee.weebly.com/photography.html
oh well, I do hope they would make that possible here on WordPress though.

No, WP doesn’t have that exact same feature. Some 3rd-party slideshows might be closer to (or even fancier than) what you’re interested in. Check this post:

What you want can be done on wp.com with some severe restrictions. It is ‘thickbox’ and it works here only if you have a ‘social vibe’ widget. I could almost swear it used to work flawlessly, but almost doesn’t really count any more. You could use the “thickbox” tag and your images would pop out, enlarged against a dark background. But for quite some time, it only works now if one is logged in to wp.com. And perhaps that was always the case.
