WP 4.7 – Can't set the admin pages language to English [with temporary solution]

    WordPress 4.7 lets every user choose the language of the administration pages. I have a blog in Italian but prefer to use English on the administration pages, so I chose “English (United States)” in my user profile.

    The page reloads, but the language still resets to “Site default”, that is Italian.

    I looked at what happens in the database. In the table wp_usermeta I forced the field meta_value to en_US where meta_key is “locale”, and the admin pages correctly appear in English.

    So I tried to set the language back to Italian in my user profile, and the value in the field correctly shows “it_IT”.

    Here comes what seems to be a bug: when I set “English (United States)” in my user profile, the meta_value field is set to empty instead of “en_US”. That should be the behaviour of the “Site default” setting.

    That is a wordpress.ORG software issue and we cannot help you here at wordpress.COM. That site is not on our servers. You are posting to the wrong support forum.

    WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different username accounts, logins, support docs and support forums, and many people get confused about the two.
