WP Account Email Change
-
I need to change my email address in my WordPress.com account, but the old email address was deleted so I don’t have access to it. I tried to change the email address in my account, but it said it would email a verification to the email address in my account, but I can’t access it, so how can I verify the changes?
I also tried to change the contact info for the domain name in my account, but it also needed to send a verification email to the address on record. Again, I don’t have access to that address.
On top of this, there is now a warning that my domain name my be suspended because my email address is not verified!
Someone please help!

Hi there,
When updating your email address, you are sent a verification email to your new email, not your old one. So, as long as you have access to your WordPress.com account, you should be able to update your email.
For more information on updating your email, please visit:
Hi there,
You can change your account email address from here:
https://wordpress.com/settings/account/
Please note that the change will not immediately take effect as you will receive a validation email at the new email address. Make sure to click the link in the validation email to confirm the email address change.
If you run into any issues, you can check out this guide below:
Cheers,

What is the email address that you are wanting to update your account to? No worries sharing that information here – only staff will be able to see the email address.
-
The email address I want to use also uses the domain name that’s with the account and I get a message saying I can’t use an email address with the same domain name.
I tried with a different email address and received the message saying WP will email a verification to the new and old email addresses and both have to approve the verification. I have yet to receive the verification email. The second email address I tried it with is (email visible only to moderators and staff)

So, in your situation,
When you want to update the email address, we send 2 or 3 emails depending on whether or not the new email address you want to change to is the same as the current WP.com email address. If the new email and the WP.com emails are the same, we send 2 emails: one to the old email address and one to the new email address.
If the new email and the WPCOM email are different, we sends 3 emails: one to the old email, one to the new email, and one to the WP.com email.
This gives the user a few options to confirm the change:
- If the new email and the WPCOM email are the same, the user can confirm the change from the one email sent to that email address.
- If they are not the same, they need to confirm from two emails. Those 2 emails can be any of the following options:
- the losing/old email + the new email
- the losing/old email + the WPCOM email
- the new email + the WPCOM email.
So if you don’t have access to the old email for whatever reason (typo, non-existent/fake address etc), you can use one of the other options to approve the change.
You should be able to change your WordPress.com email as I mentioned before but if you are having trouble doing that, confirm the email you want to change it to and I’ll update it for you. Then, I can resend the verification email and you can start from scratch there.
Thanks,
-
Darnell, thank you so much for your help.
The email address currently associated with the WP account and the domain name is (email visible only to moderators and staff). It was deleted by one of our volunteers in 2016 because they thought it was hacked, when it wasn’t. I wasn’t around at that time.
The email I’d like associated with the WP account and the domain name is (email visible only to moderators and staff) but I got a message saying I couldn’t use an email address with the same domain name.
If that address will not work, I’d like them changed to (email visible only to moderators and staff)I tried to change the WP account email address to (email visible only to moderators and staff), but the message I got said it would send a verification email to the old and new addresses but I never received a verification email at the new address.
Thank you for your help with this.

You wouldn’t be able to use the custom domain email to verify the domain because one depends on the other. You can, however, change that email on your WordPress.com account – is this what you’d like to do?
It would be best if you could reach us directly via https://wordpress.com/help/contact since we can’t disclose some of the data here, on the public forums, I wouldn’t like to cause any misunderstanding :)
When reaching out you can mention the link to this post so you don’t need to repeat the question again. -
I’ve tried to change the WP account’s email address multiple times and every time it has told me it will send a verification email to the old and new emails and I will need to approve both.
I have also sent a request to customer support on August 13th with the following message:
“The email address associated with this account, (email visible only to moderators and staff), was deleted sometime in 2016 because of a concern that it got hacked. However, no one updated the info in the WordPress account. How can I update the email address and the contact information? The new email address that needs to be used is (email visible only to moderators and staff), but it says I can’t use an email with the same domain name the website is using. If we can’t use that one, we would need to use (email visible only to moderators and staff). Please reply to the (email visible only to moderators and staff) address, or (email visible only to moderators and staff) for any updates as (email visible only to moderators and staff) was deleted, so no one can access it.
Thank you,

Will you or someone please change the WP account email address to (email visible only to moderators and staff).
Will you or someone please change the domain name’s contact email address to:
(email visible only to moderators and staff) -
Hi there,
We can’t make those changes for you. Please contact our support team via live chat at https://wordpress.com/help/contact to get further assistance.
-
I’ve already contacted Support, but it didn’t give me an option for live chat. It only allowed me to send a message. On top of that, it’s going to reply to the WP account email address, which is the one I don’t have access to because it was deleted.
Darnell already said he could make those changes. Will you at least change the WP account email address to (email visible only to moderators and staff), please?
-
That email address cannot be used yet, as it is tied to an account that was deleted 3 weeks ago.
You’ll be able to use it after a full month has past since deleting.
-
Thank you for letting me know that. Since the domain name is in jeopardy of being suspended, I’ve gone ahead and updated the email address to something else.
Will someone please change the contact email for the domain name to (email visible only to moderators and staff)
-
When I try to change the domain name’s contact info, I get this notification,
https://www.screencast.com/t/sHMg1fVJU3The original email address was deleted in 2016 so I can’t access it to approve the change request.

@friscolegion, live chat is not available during weekends, so please try again. And if you’re only allowed to open a ticket (that can happen if there are no free slots), go ahead and do that. You can add a link to this post so that there’s no need of explaining your issue once again.
Thanks! -
I tried to reach out to support chat on Thursday the 13th, around 3pmCST and it made me send an email.
Since the domain name is in jeopardy of being suspended if the email address is not verified, will someone please change the domain name’s contact email to (email visible only to moderators and staff)
I just tried to change the domain name contact email address and got this message.
When I clicked submit, I got this message. -
I just tried to get on a support chat and it only gives me the ability to email them, so I submitted a support request asking that they change the domain name contact email address. However, if someone else has the ability to update the domain name contact email address, please feel free to do that.
Also, where do I go to check on the status of tickets I’ve submitted?
Thank you,
