WP Admin Login Problem

  I’m struggling to access the admin page for my website.

  Previously I would use a separate username and password to login to the admin page. Now it tells me that I need a word press account – which I obviously have – but it also says that two factor authentication is required. Has wordpress changed the system? I’ve never needed this before.

  It also tells me that my site cannot be accessed – I assume this is due to the login system being changed. Do I have to configure a 2-factor authentication to proceed?

  Hi @emajoyc4, it sounds like you might be dealing with a mixup between a self-managed copy of the free WordPress software, and the services offered by WordPress.com. They are separate and would have separate logins. Our service also has 2fa available, but if you have never enabled that here I’m guessing the username you’re using is associated with another account.

  Hi Supernovia, thanks for the info. You are correct I regularly get the two confused, however if I have been trying to follow the link you suggested, it automatically forwards to a wordpress login site:

  https://wordpress.com/log-in?redirect_to=https%3A%2F%2Fwordpress.com%2Fwp-login.php%3Faction%3Djetpack-sso%26site_id%3D117893064%26sso_nonce%3Dg5ttusbi0a9vklzshnhl

  which caused all the confusion.

  I’m not sure why it is doing this. I assume that I should still re-ask the question in the self-managed forum as you suggested?

  Ah I see, it looks like you’ve enabled Jetpack’s Single Sign On:

  Jetpack

  Is it just recommending a phone number as a security measure? And if you don’t want that can you skip it for now?
