WP Admin Page

  • Unknown's avatar

Two days ago, the appearance of my blog changed, in the sense that I can see only the WP Admin Page. The old view had a white menu to the left, and the WP admin button was somewhere at the end of that menu. Now I only have the WP admin black menu. Furthermore, I had three new subscribers today – I received the notifications in my e-mail, but none of them show in my subscribers list. Two of the new subscribers are WordPress bloggers and one is an e-mail subscriber. Like I said, the total number of subscribers is still 485 as it was two days ago. May I get help with my two issues, please? Thank you in advance.

  • We’re combining the Calypso and WP-Admin sidebars into one that’s consistent across both dashboards. This should help reduce confusion when navigating between Calypso and WP-Admin features.

Where there’s a duplicate feature on WordPress.com, we’re letting you choose whether to default to Calypso or WP-Admin, so please take a moment to go to https://wordpress.com/me/account and set your link preference there. Here’s a screenshot: https://wordpress.com/support/account-settings/#dashboard-appearance

If something feels off, please add details to this thread, letting us know what you clicked on, what you expected, and what happened instead. If you can share a bit about your typical use, too, that would be helpful.

As for the missing subscribers, what were their email addresses?

So I haven’t done anything wrong. WordPress made some changes. Basically I need to get used to the new appearance, right? There is nothing I can do to see my site the way it was five days ago…

And the new subscribers who don’t appear in my followers count they are:
    1. Muneera Bind Abdul Gafoor is now following Film Serial – Fri, Mar 19 at 4:10 PM
    2. toranaga777 is now following Film Serial – Fri, Mar 19 at 5:59 PM
    And the e-mail subscriber
    3. (email visible only to moderators and staff) is now following Film Serial – Fri, Mar 19 at 5:52 PM

Thanks again for your kind help.

  • I actually don’t see any confirmed subscribers under the only site on your account.

What’s the URL of the site they subscribed to?

  • Wait, sorry, scratch that. This is what I get for having too many tabs open. :)

You’re right, I don’t see 1 and 2 listed there, and 3 isn’t subscribed to anything at all.

Are these the three most recent subscribers, or are there others within this time period who are still subscribed?

Sorry it seems that the time zone gets between a proper conversation, but we’ll get to the bottom of this eventually. :)
The problem with the new subscribers appeared yesterday. If it was only one subscriber, I would say it followed my blog and then un-followed within minutes, before I got to see it in my inbox and check the WP notifications. But 3 subscribers? No way! As long as we acknowledge there is a problem, we’ll solve it.

Now, to answer your question: Yes, they are three most recent subscribers. The only three I got in the past two days and they don’t show up. Furthermore, the last subscriber (amazingnature530 – from three days ago) appears now as if he joined my blog yesterday, so he was moved up in time by Muneera Bind Abdul Gafoor’s attempt to subscribe. (I hope this makes sense).

Whatever problem I have with the subscribers, it’s quite new. It happened yesterday. Or two days ago after amazingnature530 joined my blog.
    Please help. Thank you.

  • Hi there,

I had a closer look at those users and this is what I found:

For number 1 I couldn’t find anything as you only gave us their name. We need their WordPress.com username or email address.

As for numbers 2 and 3. They are the same person (username is associated with the email address) and it’s essentially only one WordPress.com account. That person unfollowed your site right after following it. That’s why you can’t see them in your followers’ list.

I gave you the same info regarding the two WP users, but you seem to link the second one with the e-mail address of the third follower, yet you say I don’t provide enough info for the first one.

In any case, if toranaga777 and/or paco.trading… is / are playing games like following a blog and then unfollowing it, they should get a warning of some sort. Or not! Never mind.

Anyway, the first one (Muneera Bind Abdul Gafoor) liked one of my posts, so I was able to see her WP account:
    https://muneeragafoor.wordpress.com/

I hope that’s the additional info that you’re asking for and you’ll be able to determine why she isn’t listed as one of my followers.

    Thank you for your time.

There isn’t anything sketchy about their activity. They only did that (follow then unfollow) on your site. We have blocking measures in place that get activated automatically when a user follows and unfollows a large number of sites. So, if they do that, they’ll be blocked.

Anyway, the first one (Muneera Bind Abdul Gafoor) liked one of my posts, so I was able to see her WP account:
    https://muneeragafoor.wordpress.com/

From that site address, I was able to find their WordPress.com username and I discovered that they did the same as the previous user. They unfollowed your site right after following it.

So, there’s nothing wrong with your followers. It just happened that two of them decided to unfollow your site.

Thank you for your kind answer. That’s a bit too coincidental for my liking, but I agree that it could happen.

I’m also pleased that there is a blocking measure for people who do that on purpose. Just take into consideration the amount of time I wasted worrying that there is something wrong and asking for help. And the amount of time you and your colleague wasted checking my claims.

Frankly I linked the problem of vanishing followers with the new appearance of my page. Otherwise perhaps I wouldn’t have complained. I’m not a cry baby, I got unfollowed before, but at least they didn’t do that right away. I got to be happy for a while that people are enjoying my blog. :)

Thank you for your answer. And sorry for wasting your time.

  • You’re welcome :)

You were right about my followers list working fine and the three jokers following and unfollowing my blog in a matter of minutes. Today my blog received a new follower who remained faithful 15 min. later so I could see him rounding nicely my followers list. Fingers crossed! :)

    Thank you!
