WP Admin page not available when I log in to WordPress blog
-
I’ve created a new free wordpress blog. I have another (older) free wordpress blog. I have not created the two blogs under the same username – I specifically need to keep them separate.
On the older one, I log in and have the WP Admin available in the options on the left. I go straight to that to create any posts or carry out any administration.
On the new blog, when I log in the WP Admin page link isn’t there. Instead I have ‘Plan’ in its place.
I can get to the WP Admin page if I manipulate the URL. However this isn’t ideal. When I do get to WP Admin, when clicking on ‘My Site’ (top left) I get the new style menu and not the old style WP Admin menu. Basically, I’m being forced to use the ‘white page’ version for anything I do.
This sounds nitpicky doesn’t it? Except I have reduced vision. The WP Admin page has more contrast and is easier for me to read/see the text boxes/menus. (Even making this request is difficult!)
Have I set something up incorrectly on the new blog? Has something changed with WordPress?
Any help appreciated please. I can’t find a setting to give me that WP Admin link and I’m about ready to delete the new blog otherwise.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Update: Because I’ve found my own answer, go me. It appears the /wp-admin page is being slowly deprecated as the link has been removed from some users landing page (/stats page) when logging in. Appears to be for new accounts created since start of October 2015.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not opposed to change, change is good. That’s how we move forward. Sadly in my case, this is a huge step backwards due to my vision problems. WordPress.com will be extremely difficult for me to use when the ‘new’ style look gets enforced and /wp-admin is no longer accessible by modifying the URL. (I say ‘new’ loosely; it’s been around for a while now, but like many I’ve been clawing on to the /wp-admin page.)
It wouldn’t be such a blow if we could change site-skins/colours in our user login settings (no, I’m not talking about Themes). We can’t, and I have a choice of what I see, fully white administration/posting pages with too pale to read text or… go elsewhere where I can see what I’m doing to use the blogging platform effectively. Yes, I’m in the minority here, I know that, but honestly? This is a terrible UI for the visual impaired.

I’m sorry you’re having trouble! Adding admin color schemes is a planned update but since there are several other updates ahead of that on the list I am not sure exactly when they will be added. One area I know has changed is contrast, particularly in the Reader and in upcoming changes to the Editor, many small adjustments are being made over time and the contrast was updated after the original admin pages launched, so if you are judging based on a past experience, definitely give it a try again periodically as it is changing at a fast pace this year (much faster than normal) and you might find that improvements that help you have been made based on clear, consistent, specific user feedback that are happening all the time.

Thank you for replying, I do appreciate it. No, I am commenting on my experience with the new editor right now, today, yesterday, the day before. Even these support pages right here I find a challenge as the colour scheme is so poor.
I don’t have a problem with the reader – I don’t use it. What I’m interested in is being able to use the platform for what it is intended; blog posting and managing a simple, quick webpage. I can’t do that with the new editor, hence my reliance on /wp-admin that has the higher contrast. Don’t be sorry that I’m having vision difficulties – I’d much rather appreciate ‘yes, I ‘see’ your problem – we will repair this.’
Thank you again for the reply and discussion. I understand where you’re coming from and your faith in the new editor coming along with improvement but at the moment I’m still planning to relocate to a different platform. There’s no guarantee how long the old editor will be around for and no time scale on when these improvements to the new will be appearing to enable me to use it. I can’t sit on or consider paying for a service I won’t be able to effectively use. Perhaps I’ll take a look a couple of years down the line.

I understand. I was more referring to upcoming changes which are not launched yet, but also wanted to make it clear that updates have been ongoing. I think you are most concerned with the editor (compared to the rest of WP Admin), and there is an update to the editor coming soon that should help you.
