WP as a Complete Community Setup, Is this Possible?

    I used to be a WP guru, seems many years ago now. But re-investigating…

    Can WP be used for a complete Community setup with with following features:

    Groups like FB

    Forums like VB

    Galleries for Images

    Galleries for Videos

    Custom User Profiles

    Stores / Marketplace for Users

    Auctions / Marketplace for Users

    Can ALL of these features be built into a single WP site using WP and Plugins?

    Like on your phone… “there’s an app for that,” WordPress most likely has a Plugin for that!

    I recommend you navigate over to the Community tab on the Plugin site: https://wordpress.com/plugins/browse/community

    Like you, I’ve been jumping back into WordPress. Some plugins have plugins now! BuddyPress has been around for a while, Ultimate Member has a lot of reviews. I believe they might be a start to get where you want to be.

    I guess I am trying to understand whether all these plugins work together so that a member has a single login to the site to guide around these plugins. I see what you mean about the plugins having plugins… just how deep does this rabbit hole go?!? I’ve been browsing all the community sections for sure. Appreciate the direction, thanks again!

    I believe you would want to find the plugin that has the most features you need – so BuddyPress OR Ultimate Member – or something else you find in that tab.

    Then find plugins for the features you are missing. I’m not sure when you last used WordPress but it is such a more robust CMS now.

    Unfortunately we can’t go into the details of every plugin – maybe a user of the plugins will chime in, it would be best to find the plugin’s main website and see if they have support forums / email help.

    You can have everything hosted here on WordPress.com, upgrade your account and connect a domain name.

    If you are looking to use an external hosting setup. WordPress.org has it’s own support fourms.
