WP-Bible Plugin Inserts Stealth Message Into Your Blog Pages

To WordPress Support and All Christian Bloggers and Webmasters:

If you are using the WP-Bible plugin, it is inserting a line of code on every page where you have used Bible verses. The code produces a line that reads, “Izbrano poglavje ne obstaja!” which is Slovenian for “The Selected Issue Does Not Exist!” A Google search of this term brings up nothing but Christian webpages, and they all begin with this blurb followed by “WP-Bible plugin,” then the first lines of the webpage. The author of the plugin is listed as Matej Nastran.

I found this out while checking out the “Most Visited Blog Pages” from a statistics plugin I use. A couple pages were listed under a tag, which is how the viewer found the page. So I clicked on the tag to see what page he viewed, and under the abbreviated content heading, the above phrase showed up before the first lines of the page. I ran a Google search for the phrase and nothing but Christian websites showed up, all preceded by this phrase. I then ran an internet translation program on it, which is how I found out what it means.

The phrase does not appear when you call up your page. You will never see it unless you click on the tag or categories, where it will appear on the abbreviated content heading. Otherwise, you would have to run a Google search on the phrase for the page containing it to come up, which you would not do if you were not aware it was there.

This is a problem, because nowhere on his plugin site does Mr. Nastran say that using this plugin would insert a stealth message onto your webpages. In other words, his plugin is doing something for you (or to you) that you didn’t ask it to do. I’m sure this is a violation of some kind. It’s a clever way for him to find out who’s using his plugin, but it’s not very honest and forthcoming. Moreover, if he can do this, he probably could also have inserted a virus, which really would have been a problem.

There is no FTP access to free hosted WordPress.COM blogs and we cannot install individual plugins. Plugins found on the internet are for wordpress.ORG installs which run on different software.

@thestillman, your post is not relevant for WordPress.com because that plugin is not used here. Could you please post about this at http://wordpress.org/tags/wp-bible?forum_id=10 and ask someone to help you verify whether the claim you’re making is true or not?
