wp-block-social-links turn purple after I click them, cannot seem to change this

Hoping someone can help me with this. My social icons look how I want them to until I click on them. They turn purple when active, and I would rather they just stay white. I have attempted to modify the a:visited and a:active colors to see if that would help but so far no luck.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi there,

Of which site are you speaking?

This is determined by your theme. The only way to change it, is to add custom CSS to your site to override the theme’s styling, but that requires the Premium Plan or higher.

Where are you trying to change this? I don’t see any sites in your account that has an upgrade plan that would allow you to modify CSS.

If you’re doing it from the browser inspector, that will only change how the site looks for you, in that specific browser, until the next time you refresh. The browser inspector is just a way to test what changes will do. The only way to make the changes permanent is by adding custom CSS to your theme in the Customizer.

Sorry, I guess I should have specified I’ve been trying in the custom CSS part of the inspector. My theme is hestia and I can’t seem to find an option for changing this in the options it gives me.

    what i keep seeing
    Some stuff I’ve dabbled with
    more stuff I’ve dabbled with

I’m trying to throw together a quick website for the first time in a while and confess I haven’t used the WordPress editor in almost a decade.

That’s correct – changes of this nature require an upgrade to the Premium plan or higher to access the Custom CSS editor needed to make the change.

If you do upgrade and let us know what your site URL is, we can advise what CSS you should use as it will be specific to your site and theme configuration.

    I hope that clarifies things!

I think I’ll try to remember to ask for alternative suggestions in the future then. I’m already aware that I’m not an upgraded plan member and that I shouldn’t be able to edit the CSS. With the custom CSS panel in the wp editor I’ve been able to achieve a fair bit of what I’ve wanted to change in the theme so was hoping this would have been an easy fix.

I ended up deleting that entire block and faking the same look using a block with 3 columns and the icons which seems to have resolved the active/visited color issue I was having. Figure I would mention it here in case that helps anyone else in the future.

  • Ahh I’m not super familiar with that theme — is the site hosted here?

All of the themes that come with our services tend to be friendly to CSS changes, but I know some third party themes have stubborn settings.

FWIW, the selector you used might not have been specific enough, but it’s hard to tell without looking at the site. You might try using the element selector in the browser inspector to see if that helps narrow it down a bit. But if all else fails, I’d recommend reaching out to support for Hestia.
