WP blurs all my photos and banner?
-
Ever since I started my WP blog I’ve noticed that for some reason all the photos and any banner image I use become weirdly blurred in my blog.
I upload the photos to my Flickr account and link then to my blog. On Flickr I choose the photo size with the width of 500 pixels to link to my blog. My originals on Flickr are larger (appr. 1000 pixels) and these can be viewed by clicking the photo on my blog.
The problem is this: all the photos look all sharp on Flickr but once they are on my blog page they are annoyingly blurred and lack a lot of detail. The original sizes (after clicking the photo) look all detailed and fine.
Why does this happen? Photos should normally look sharper when they are smaller, not blurrier.The same thing with all banner photos I’ve tried to use. these I always upload directly to WP. Every banner image becomes hopelessly blurry after I have uploaded it on WP. I’ve used the recommended photos sizes for banners but still this happens.
I am really baffled because I don’t notice this same problem in other people’s blogs – they have sharp nice banners etc.
So what could be the problem?I find this problem really annoying because my blog is mainly a photo blog and I wouldn’t want all my photos look like they were slightly bad and out of focus!
Thanks a lot for any assistance!

Is the problem happening now? Because all I see are crisp looking photos. Header looks nice.

Perhaps this article (and its comments) will help:

@amandave814:
To me the current banner is really blurry compared to my original photo. My banner is not in sharp focus, like for instance the banner in this WP blog:
http://sakari2.wordpress.com/I see a really major difference in the sharpness between that and my banner. However, my original banner photo is just as sharp.
About photos in the posts:
I was just experimenting and I’ve just replaced all the photo links for the very latest post by right-clicking every photo in Flickr and choosing ‘copy the image address’ and then manually copy pasting every single address to my blog – which takes SO much time to do that I really don’t see it as an option to use in the future.
If you look at the photos in the older posts, you should be able to see a blurring when you compare the photos in the blog posts and the larger images when you click it.
The older photos are definitely not sharp in small size.@1tess:
Thanks for the link, I will look into this and see if it helps. -
@amandave814:
here’s an example of the blurriness i mean, try this post for instance:
http://uuvana.wordpress.com/2010/07/17/keijujen-haat/Compare the image sharpness between the smaller photo in the post and the larger one when you click it. In my opinion there is a pretty notable difference – perhaps not that huge for a casual blogger but for someone interested in photoblogging it presents a notable problem.

Yes it doesn’t help directly. I posted there to see if anyone notices, but it’s a bit of an old thread I guess.

I forgot:
Linking to Flickr doesn’t explain why my banners lack focus. I upload those to WP.

“Anyone” noticed and replied:

Reply applies to the images in your posts as well as your banners. -
The way the images are resized it not always flattering, the best method is to resize them yourself to the specific dimensions you want in photoshop/gimp/whatever and then upload them. You can always include a link to the larger image as well. Have a look at this article.
