WP Categories don’t show up

When I’m creating a new post in WP the Category menu doesn’t show up on the sidebar (only the Tag menu). So I am not able to categorize any of my posts (at the moment I have actually 3 different categories). But all posts land of course in the default category because WP doesn’t give me the option to choose. When I started my website some months ago, I can remember that there was this Category menu at the sidebar, but since some weeks it is not there anymore. And even on the posts-overview page it doesn’t show any category or tag information (like I have seen it on some ‘helping pages’ from other WP users). I googled it a lot but couldn’t find anything helpful. Maybe someone here can help please?

@aaandrea81 are you having trouble with WordPress.com/post or wp-admin on your own installation? We’ll try to point you in the right direction.

I think I have it :-) when I work in wordpress.ORG I can’t change the categories, but now I tried it in wordpress.COM and there it is possible. Thank you so much for the hint :-)
