WP changed my permalink by adding the date, deleting all content….to undo…?
-
https://salvationcanada.wordpress.com/ …..Was changed to:
https://salvationcanada.wordpress.com/2016/10/10/home/All content on my Main, one and only, Home, Post, was deleted.
After Hours, now days, of researching. looking, I was able to ‘repost’
and at least get my content back up.However, I still need to get rid of the stupid DATE that wp added to
my Permalink. Edit/Quick Edit do not change it.All I need to do is Take Out the ‘date’ added/changed by WP!
How would I do this?
Suggestions?

Hi,
I’m having trouble finding where the error that you report lies. The URL https://salvationcanada.wordpress.com/ is the site URL, and the address of the site’s homepage. It hasn’t been changed to the URL of a post.
All content on my Main, one and only, Home, Post, was deleted.
If that’s the case, then you might be able to restore the content of the original post from a revision. See the Restoring Revisions section of the Post and Page Revisions support page.
However, I still need to get rid of the stupid DATE that wp added to
my Permalink. Edit/Quick Edit do not change it.The permalink of every post, draft and published, on a WordPress.com site includes a date. You can’t remove the date from a WordPress.com post permalink. If you previously had the content in a content type without a date in its permalink, then it wasn’t a post. Was it a static page?
If you would like to display the same content on the homepage in a static page then you may do so. This will eliminate the necessity of a post, and an permalink with a date. See the Set a Static “Home” Page (Front Page) support page for relevant information and instructions.

Thank you for the response. You want details? Here come details!
The theme is 2011 from 5 years ago. WP was not as straightforward back then. My site didn’t fit the profile, so had to use a dot com and make the the single post my front page. To keep this, I had to disable updates, which was fine. For 5 years it mostly worked.
(Only didn’t work when WP suddenly changed something, crashing me)
My hope was to be back on a paid website by now, but hasn’t happened.
History. As stated in first note, something in WP went sideways. It inserted a new date in the permalink, and deleted my entire lengthy Post. I temp fixed this by republishing. But now I have 2 permalinks. The old one and the new one. This is evidenced in the links I provided. Here again:
https://salvationcanada.wordpress.com/
https://salvationcanada.wordpress.com/2016/10/10/home/Google results will be destroyed as the new permalink is unknown.
WP also changed the entire Post by adding the 10/10 date in on Every picture. Doh! Doesn’t WP have anything better to do? There are many blogs about WP dates and how to delete, but my site seems to have that option removed!
Here we go again. I ran into WP taking away other options in the past,
(which they do in order to FORCE you to pay $. I would if I could)
In the past I was able to work around the WP bugs.
This one though, WP just suddenly deleted my entire POST!
And this new date popped up in the PermaLink!
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. To be CLEAR, it’s not the pics I care about having the date on,
it’s the PERMALINK!So now, I am trying yet again to fix WP. More agony.
Does everyone understand what happened, and why, and now the problem of having a new permalink? I need the old permalink back!
In the past, on my own access to my paid for server, I would just go change the permalink. However, WP keeps taking options away and I cannot change it there, nor on the settings in WP like used to be available!!! So Frustrating WP!
Do you see the two links? Old and New? I need the date gone!
https://salvationcanada.wordpress.com/
https://salvationcanada.wordpress.com/2016/10/10/home/WP staff can do this. Will you please contact WP staff to correct this.
Thank you.ps the Post is the front page (Home Page) because WP wanted it like that.
Back then it would not let me use a page, for a homepage, as it was not static, but updated regularly. Thus WP said I had to use a Post as a HomePage. Whatever. It has worked, mostly, for 5 years. Until this latest WP glitch.
Does everyone understand why I don’t want a New permalink??? Good.
I NEED to get back to the old Permalink. Also, Updating the Post will all be under the new permalink, NO GOOD!
I cannot do anything until this is corrected! So Frustrating WP!
pss If I go back to a previous version, my experience is that doing so rarely works properly. Been there done that, Nightmare! A month, an entire month of editing to make it right. No Thanks!
I don’t want this problem to happen again a week later, either! So again, please just have a WP staffer change my Permalink back
to the way it was.
Tell them of this new Glitch too. Seeing my entire lengthy Post deleted
for no reason, was shocking, to say the least!!
Thank you.Grrrr…I “submit” this but it just goes to a blank white page?!
Now what is going on with WP??? -
Hi there,
I can load your site without problems at https://salvationcanada.wordpress.com/, and if I click the Home link in your menu I am taken to that same page.
The front page of your site is set to display your latest posts. At the moment you only have one post titled, NEWS 4U at Salvation Canada, with the permalink https://salvationcanada.wordpress.com/2016/10/10/home/
You published that post 15 hours ago according to your posts list here:
https://salvationcanada.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php
It has never been possible to edit the permalink structure on WordPress.com. Posts display with a date in the permalink. Pages display without a date in the permalink.
We have not changed anything on your site, but seeing as all the other content on your site has been published as pages it appears this time you created a new post by mistake instead of creating a new page.
You should be aware that pages don’t appear in your site’s feed, so followers don’t get notifications if you publish a new page and they don’t appear in the WordPress.com Reader. That only happens with posts. Search engines also give preference to posts over pages, so if you’re concerned about search ranking you might want to consider switching to using posts instead.
Also note that if you want a post to appear in tag searches in the Reader you need to use fewer than 15 tags, not several hundred as you’ve added to that one post. WordPress.com tags are not indexed by search engines at all, so adding that number of tags does not benefit your site in any way.

Thank you for responding, heikkok. 10/10/2016 1:15pm eastern
If only i was that daft, that I published my Post magically by mistake….
No. I already stated, and state again, that I had to “republish” in order to get my HomePage content displayed again. Hundreds and Hundreds of words and lots and lots of pictures.
No kokkieh, I did NOT publish again, by mistake. You Failed to answer any of my questions kokkieh. Why is that???
Then you go off on some wild tangent that has nothing to do with my request. Why is that??? As for your tangent, it is wrong too. My site was not, nor will always be WP.
WP and it’s mods were so helpful long ago. Why is that???A WP Glitch sent this problem flying. A WP Glitch happens regularly causing all kinds of problems for users. Always has. What I stated are the facts, not your “Imaginations”. I graduated University and worked with computers for decades. Have you???
Then I suggest you stop lying, kokkieh. You Lied, falsely accusing me of mistakenly posting.
You Lied, saying “It has never been possible to edit the permalink structure on WordPress.com.”, when It not only is possible, there is an EDIT button right beside it.
You Lied, multiple times, saying:“We have not changed anything on your site, but seeing as all the other content on your site has been published as pages it appears this time you created a new post by mistake instead of creating a new page.”
NO, WP changed my PermaLink,
NO, WP deleted my entire POST,
NO, WP changed my content media links,
NO, WP deleted my Post dated Oct 5 2011, which I finally decided to republish in order to not have a BLANK homepage. Proof is the new date of 2016/10/10.No kokkieh. You failed to answer the simple question of
Can you have WP take the date of 2016/10/10 out of my PermaLink?Oh, you already said “It has never been possible to edit the permalink structure on WordPress.com. Posts display with a date in the permalink.”
Really? A simple Google shows:
https://premium.wpmudev.org/blog/remove-date-from-wordpress-posts/
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FaRuENWdhCE
https://wordpress.org/support/topic/how-to-
remove-date-from-post-url-in-dyad-theme/https://brianhogg.com/how-to-change-the-
wordpress-permalink-structure-to-remove-dates-from-the-url/You Lied and showed your complete ignorance, kokkieh.
I Demand to speak to a SUPERVISOR immediately!
(conversation is copied and pasted to my files)
note to supervisor: As I stated earlier, WP has taken away the TOOLS
from the free WP sites, so I cannot change this myself. Also, the free WP now limits the Plugins so again, PAY or suffer. A plugin would the date out of the URL as well. Or it could be changed manually, but OH, Surprise, WP took that option away as well!!! Pathetic!Hence I am making the simple request that you remove the date of 2016/10/10 from the PermaLink. Too easy!
Finally, even trying to reply on this site Glitches. Twice it sent me to a blank white page. Obviously there is more than one problem going on at WP.
Thank you in advance for this easy fix.
If it happens again, WP deleting my Post, you will hear me SCREAM!Regards.

As I said above, the date appears in your permalink because that is a post. Posts always display a date in the permalink.
If you don’t want the permalink to display, you need to publish a page instead.
It has never been possible to change the permalink structure on WordPress.com. If you were able to change it on a previous site, that site was using the self-hosted WordPress.org software, which is something completely different from WordPress.com. All those links you give refer to WordPress.org, not WordPress.com.
WordPress.com and WordPress.org
The Edit button you see next to the permalink in the post editor is to edit the link slug, not the link structure:
It has also never been possible to use plugins on WordPress.com. Plugins can only be used on WordPress.org

Umm, why? Did you read everything? I have the Post back,
but the Permalink has changed. I had to repost.
I need the “date” taken back out of the Permalink, asap.
WP intentionally prevents that, unless you pay them $$$.
That is very wrong.
WP glitched, maybe on purpose, causing the error,
now they want $$$ to fix their error? I don’t think so!
I am just luck I got my Post back as it is about 8,000 words. And if yes, if you are trying to catch me lying, think again.
I can cite 6 pages published about that time. The top main menu pages.
Happy now?If I sound upset, I AM!
Year after year WP glitches, causing me much time and effort.
I stick with WP because of some great people there in the past.
Knowledgeable, helpful people who read comprehensively.
And find solutions!
I stick with WP so one day I can purchase a plan and do business with WP
I stick with WP because the keep trying to improve. But this is getting ridiculous. Even this Forum page glitched 2X,
sending me to a blank white page instead?! Something is again
not going right at WP.Not long ago, WP failed to replace Hard Drives and were running over
90% capacity. I could not even access my own website, as it timed out every time. After a week of WP denying any problem, and blaming me for everything, saying crap like “oh, it must be your cache”, I caught them lying and they then admitted the problems were on their end.
WP wasted and entire week of my time and effort.
So ya, WP has a track record.
In the end, they apologized and made up for it.
I accepted.
Things were, well, not great, not good, but half ok for a free site.
I miss having my own server. Was too costly though.
I hope, as I said, to see WP do better, and to purchase a plan
when some larger donations come in.
One reason for limited donations is all the crappy commercials
WP heaps on the website, bogging visitors down, so they leave.
I track the times. Most all leave as soon as WP plays crap commercials. That really suks, because they shoot me in the foot, and themselves.
Who is deciding all these dumb things anyway?
I can’t get more donations because WP keeps chasing people away.
Anti-productive.
Oh, just buy the plan that takes commercials off.
Really? Extortion? LOL!
Poor business planning and poor tech is still going on there.
Where is the WP of 5 years ago?! WP rocked then!!Where is the Supervisor?
I report a Bug.
I report kokkieh
I request my glitched Permalink have the date 2016/10/10 taken out.
Posted Date was October 5, 2011 -
Or check among your draft and pending posts, if any, for one dated October 5, 2011. The status of the post might have inadvertently been changed from published to draft, or pending, status.

Good tip musicdoc1, for not having my site to look at.
Been there done that.
I was hoping for something, but I only have one (1) post.
At the time, 2011, WP dot org would not work for my site
so they recommended WP dot com with the frontpage (homepage)
being a sole post, and the rest pages. That was 5 years ago.
It’s not a very good system, but it is something.
My traffic went way down. From over 100 visits per day, to about 10.
Still, I hope and pray the situation will improve all around. So ya, only one post, and that was gone. According to my dashboard.
WP glitched.
My nightmare of nightmares. So much work, 10 months work there.
I was lucky to use a stored copy of the code and republish.
Whew!
But then for even this forum to twice glitch, makes me nervous about WP.
Something funky is going on with their systems.
They never want to admit it, but crap happens daily with WP hardware/software. Tough business and lots of competition.
However, I hope WP stays afloat.
They had a lot of great people 5 years ago. Some must still be there.
Maybe they could “coach” the rookies on how not to LIE to Members.
(ouch!)For now, all I need is that Permalink changed.
Then, they do need to fix the Bug/Glitch.
Further improvements would be nice, such as getting rid of
the crappy commercials that no on watches, and crappy commercials that drive people away from MY WEBSITE. Because THAT would generate more revenue for WP as I could then afford a paid plan.
Oh well, no one ever accused WP of having good business sense!
hint, hint….Did you see the 2nd Presidential Debate?
I nearly had a heart attack watching it! Wow!
Thanks again for the intelligent tip musicdoc1.
Do you hear that? mbzzz, ….. mbzzzz, ….
Is that WP calling to hire you?

I checked the logs for your account and no posts or pages have been deleted for the past two months. 4 days ago you deleted a large number of comments and a few media files, but the last time a page was deleted on your site was on 1 August.
I repeat, the permalink did not change. It is not possible for a page to convert into a post and there is no way to change the permalink structure for either pages or posts..
The post is showing a date in the permalink because you published it as a post not as a page. If you copy that information into a new page instead and publish that, it will not show the date.
You have 67 published pages on your site, and one published post.
- The topic ‘WP changed my permalink by adding the date, deleting all content….to undo…?’ is closed to new replies.
