WP.com HOWTO
-
All,
Normally working in “REAL WORDPRESS” but put up several blog under WP.com.
I previously had my main sight formatted correctly but something change, it became crap, so went back and applied theme: Twenty-Fourteen/ This is at:
What I need to change here is the menu must be left aligned not right and the content mus cover 90-95% of the white space.
In regular WP I would just create a child theme, go into the “Header” php file and change the alignment and the other php file controlling the body and change the content area to “centered” @ “95%.
Sorry but I’ve forgotton how to do this here on WP.com.
All help appreciated!
Cheers!

Hi TBNK, it’s all WordPress. The main difference is who is taking care of hosting, security, maintenance, etc:
We don’t allow code edits on free or personal sites hosted here. A few changes like that, multiplied by a hundred million sites, would vastly complicate security and maintenance for us. It would certainly make it harder for us to cover our costs for free sites.
But we do allow CSS changes on sites with Premium plans. And our Business Plans allow you to create child themes, upload plugins, etc, while still providing security, maintenance, and support. If you’d like that you can upgrade, or if you’re comfortable handling that and hosting on your own, you can use another self-hosted copy of WordPress.
Hoping this helps!

OK!
So I still have the following Qs!
- Using CSS how do I control the “white space”?
- How do I add fields to the “Contact From”?
- Can I still add links to external forms/pages that deploy here?
- How do I set the Editor to Classic Editor only?
- How do I turn off the “WP 4 Dummies” BS?
- You have modified all HTML tags to use your CSS, so where is the list of your CSS modified tags?
Been on here for years and seen all the transistions and the more you attempt to help the Dummies, the more you go backward. Why don’t you allow us to select a.) Beginner, or b.) Advanced User?
Cheers!

1. We’ll need to see the URL of the site you’re working on and a few more specifics about which white space to help with that.
2. For that, please follow this guide: https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/form-block/
3. Absolutely, yes: https://wordpress.com/support/links/
4. If you really want to use the classic editor, it is still available: https://wordpress.com/support/editors/#classic-editor
We also have tips for transitioning from the classic editor to blocks https://wordpress.com/support/switching-from-the-classic-to-the-block-editor/ and FAQs: https://wordpress.com/support/replacing-the-older-wordpress-com-editor-with-the-wordpress-block-editor/#frequently-asked-questions
We do recommend the new editor though, and we have some extensive documentation available at https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/
If you have feedback that could help make the new block editor a better experience for you, please let us know here: https://wordpress.com/forums/topic/feedback-thread-for-the-block-editor/
5. I’m not sure what you’re referring to. Would you please share a screenshot of that via https://snipboard.io/ ?
6. CSS tags are very theme-specific, there is nothing we have specifically changed with that.
