Hello,
I haven’t done anything with wordpress blogs in the past. I have been looking to install a plugin, everywhere online points me to the directory /wp-content/plugins/ however I cannot access it and am greeted with the following message:
Lost?
Our server sentries tell us you should probably not be here. Maybe you are lost?
If you are sure this is the place you are trying to go, please contact us and we will be happy to help.
Can you help?
Many thanks,

Hi there,
We don’t allow plugins on WordPress.com for security reasons. Plugins are a feature only available for self-hosted blogs provided through WordPress.org. You can find out more about this topic here: http://support.wordpress.com/plugins/
However, we do have several built-in features that were inspired by many popular plugins. You might find what you want by searching for it at http://en.support.wordpress.com/
For more information on the differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org, please see: http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

Hello,
Thanks for the quick reply.
Would I be able to export this one, and import it to a wordpress.org site after purchasing some hosting?
Many thanks,

This guide will step you through the process of moving your blog to a WordPress.org instance:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-to-wordpress-org
As we only support blogs hosted here at WordPress.com, all issues with the new blog–including the importing of the file–must be taken to the WordPress.org support community:
If you’d like assistance moving your WordPress.com blog to WordPress.org, we have a service called Guided Transfer that does all the work for you. Check it out to see if it’s right for you:
