WP does not support freedom of speech … I am from UK
-
Fàilte, means Welcome in Scotland and Ireland. Both Languages are many centuries older than English and are also more British than English.
Why can’t I add Fàilte to my Title. I can add Croeso, I can add Dynnargh, yet I cannot add Fàilte.wel ten, ddim siarad iawn cymraeg ac Albanwr ac Gwyddelig ac Cernyweg. Ond fy’n Siarad Saes ddai iawn – So sort out your UK languages or I will insist that the Gaelic Language speaking countries hit you for limiting their freedom of speech. I cannot add Fàilte to my blog, I am British, I am Born British, I have a name that comes from Kings of Ireland and that name has Fought for Scotland.
I am also from Wales and Holiday in Cornawall, so why is the real British Language being blocked. I would deem that as being in contravention of our freedom of speech. It maybe that your software does not recognise it as British – not my problem, I want to use British Language and I am not permitted. It is my right. You are censoring my language and not because it is a word, you are censoring a whole British, UK, Free language.I do not find this acceptable – sort it out ASAP.

Hi 1tess – no it is a wordpress blog software.
I could not find any aspect of their software that offered any assistance with their surpression of real languages.
I have tried WP, I tried Google to view blog CMS concerning WP, but nothing. I have read WP statement on freedom of speech.
If they have it here then it stands to reason that it would be advocated to any blog software they make available. However – freedom of speech is not the true case as half of the British Isles is not catered for in WP software.
A simple word like Fàilte, is simply not allowed, it means Welcome but unfortunately that word is not welcome in WP.
It’s wrong, illegal and WP should provide proper formats for these issues to be discussed.
Thanks for your input though 1tess.
It is appreciated.
Sean.

Did you ever think that perhaps no one has yet done a translation for that language? There are many languages that have not yet been translated at wordpress because no one who knows the language has yet come forward to do it. WordPress could just as easily have decided right from the beginning not to support any language except English, but they did not, and the number of translations and supported languages have been growing constantly.
Contact staff directly and offer your services to translate for them. And freedom of speech has nothing to do with it.

Oh I see !!!! – do I have a blog contained in WordPress? – yes I do – I am Ddywalgi.
WordPress still haven’t rectified my problem though – which is – how to put a British Language in the title of their software despite them being squashed onto the freedom of speech sleigh.
ONE WORD – Fàilte – can’t add Irish or Scottish nor proper British languages to the software.
Fàilte – It simply means WELCOME.
WordPress are in contravention of my freedom of speech as my British language is being surpressed.
Ty fel brwsh WP y fe?
Beth wyt yn waid gyda fi?A good British language – older than even the Romans!!!
or Latin – means Later In, doesn’t it?.Please sort the software out to accept ALL British UK Languages, not just English.

We at WordPress.com absolutely support free speech. As thesacredpath has said, no translation has yet been done for this language. Feel free to contact support directly to discuss the matter, we’d be more than happy to help.

In response to the sacred path – Freedom of speech so long as it is English?
I can’t even use the word Fàilte – it doesn’t print to screen it is not allowed when typing in a headline. That is NOT freedom of speech and believe me if I could speak Welsh, Cornish, Scottish and Irish fluently I would offer my services, I speak a few words and being a Son of First Language Welsh (South Wales ) I know some Welsh but it is a different dialect to what is considered Welsh as the Welsh Dialect is generally taken from Carmarthen up through the center of wales.
Swansea is different Welsh.
And how many other Dialects of Gaelic and Celtic exist in the UK.
Who cares!!! It is only English (the foreign language of the UK) they are interested in.
Sorry you feel it is ok to just use English.
-
And as far as having Fàilte in the title, here are two screenshots. One from a blog hosted here at wordpress.COM, and one from a self-hosted blog – both with Fàilte as the title in the blog.

I never said it was OK, what I said is there is no rule that says any company has to support any language. It is a choice.
-
Hi Hanni,
It is a title thing, I can use Fàilte here … no problem.
But try putting Fàilte in a title … it doesn’t show, Croeso, Dynnargh and Welcome show in a title.
What is wrong with Gaelic? erm .. well it’s Celtic but different Celtic. It doesn’t show in a title.
-
Thank you the sacred path,
but when a company advocates “freedom of speech” then what language => 0 -
Go here to my test blog, http://opposablethumbz.wordpress.com/ , I have it both in a post title and in a page title, and also in a post title.
-
Let me rephrase that:
Go here to my test blog, http://opposablethumbz.wordpress.com/ , I have it as the blog title and as a page title, and also as a post title.

This is not a complaint about wordpress, it is a challenge to the claim that wordpress offers freedom of speech.
My WordPress software (2.7.1) doesn’t allow reproduction of indigenous British language in the title, I am supposed to advocate this software to a Borders News Guru .. erm NOT!Thank you Sambauers, 1tess and sacredpath for your input, and whilst I acknowledge the defence of WP from you all, it does not diminish my own lack of freedom of written speech in a title.
But is there a solution?
Thanks sacredpath – for showing it does exist, but not in my own 2.7.1 wp.
I can fully understand complaints aren’t nice, but Glam uni were the same until the welsh assembly got involved, they then added a welsh language section on their web, nice considering it was in Wales and English is a foreign language.
I cannot add Fàilte to my title .. I love the software but I cannot advocate it to potential clients in the Borders and Scotland.
I don’t know why it won’t show Gaelic in the TITLE! And I am quite sorry too. I am in Northumberland. Close to the borders of Scotland.
Brilliant software failing the language.
-
Thanks Sacred path .. I have seen and am converted ..
I don’t know why it won’t work on mine though????. -
Try changing to a different theme temporarily, like back to the default wordpress theme. On my 2.7.1 test installation using the Vigilance theme, it works just fine. It could possibly be that the theme you are using is a problem.
Also go to settings > reading in the dashboard and make sure that under “Encoding for pages and feeds” that it is set for UTF-8. That is the defacto standard now and supports virtually anything.
The problem I think is somewhere in your installation or in its settings. Check the above and also try a different theme or two.
